she's probably waiting to see if she gets a better offer from a top tier program...ucla & usc have a ways to go to get back to the top but the one thing ucla & usc have going for them is joining the big 10 the following season (meaning live in sunny cali & play in the big 10)...it will be interesting to see how these cali schools perform in the big 10 in volleyball edit: to me she seems interested in texas UCLA is a year removed from the sweet 16,injuries were a problem. Neither school are just awful and are adding quality talent to compete. This thread is for the recruiting class of 2025. UCLA and USC will be part of the Big Ten already. They officially join the Big Ten on August 2, 2024. So the 2024 volleyball season will include UCLA and USC in the Big Ten.

she mentioned one of the things she’s looking for in a program is if the “volleyball and academics are insane” … while the big 10 is clearly the best volleyball conference, outside of Northwestern none of those “top tier” programs are UCLA academically. The best thing for UCLA & USC is they got new coaching staffs. Do you really think that employers care that someone has a generic undergrad degree from UCLA v. Wisconsin/Michigan/Penn State etc.? I'd bet my bottom dollar that most don't. I don’t actually. What’s your point?

What’s your point? Well, you said that none of the top tier Big 10 programs are on par with UCLA academically. For undergrad, I don’t think that’s true, and perceived academic rigor of undergrad programs is becoming unimportant for employers. An undergrad degree in biology or political science doesn’t mean any more coming from UCLA than it does Wisconsin.

So it makes sense to me. Not sure I agree, but easy to understand the post.

Texas isn’t done yet and Nebraska just getting started. Those two will be the winners of this recruiting round. Look for more announcements with the next couple of days.

I think most student athletes want to be somewhere where not only the athletics and academics are somewhere desirable but also the environment they are going to spend 4-5 years of their life in. If an athlete prefers the environment in Westwood over the environment in Madison, and both are open to them, I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind going to the least desirable location, just because. That’s the point I’m making. An employer, especially these days, are going to care about the entire package of employee they are going after.
