Your white privilege is showing. I will NOT edit because it wasn’t a racist comment but an obvious observation. I'm black. Your assumption I am white is interesting as well. Well then your interpretation of racism is v interesting, to say the least

It is translated as racism and should be edited. Lincoln, Nebraska is about 80% white as of the last census. There is nothing racist about listing obvious facts. Some people prefer living in communities where the racial composition looks more like them, and some people prefer living in communities that are more racially diverse. Nothing wrong with either one of those preferences.

Are you not able to see the comment made about the crowd of white people?? that it's a place she would choose not to live... because there is too many white people there? 🙄

The demographics of Lincoln are what they are. If a student athlete is deterred by that, that’s their prerogative and fair enough. It’s ok to point that out or feel that way.
I care more about what the students of color who do join the team and who have over the years feel re: the community they’re in and the fanbase. Fortunately, they all have had nothing but amazing things to say about that relationship with the Nebraskans they encounter every day 🙂

Are we really trying to end bigotry and not see people by color? Or are we just becoming what we are trying to defeat? Be kind. “Not seeing people by color” is already problematic in itself. FYI.

I didn’t say it was a bad thing. But as a non-white person, student athlete or not, I would want to live in a more diverse city and would feel more comfortable. I would want my fellow community and fan base to be diverse as possible. Given the platform SA have nowadays, I’d also want to inspire a diverse generation athletes.

It’s totally OK for a POC not to want to live in a community where they know they’re going to be the only non-white person in the restaurant or on the bus or at work. Ignoring that systemic racism negatively impacts POCs on a daily basis in favor of a colorblind ideology is dangerous as it “leaves people without the language to discuss race and examine their own bias.” If you have Black children, or coach them, and aren’t preparing them to live in contemporary American society where real racism exists, that’s what’s not OK. www.oprahdaily.com/life/relationships-love/a32824297/color-blind-myth-racism/
