(some) people put way too much stock in how a player looks in the UA game, especially middles. The fact that a player is selected in the first place is good proof that they are elite quality volleyball players for their class. HOW they play in one match where they have a day or two to practice with a bunch of other players many have never played with is almost entirely irrelevant to how good of a player they were in club or how good they will be in college. There have been stars in the UA match that have never been All Americans and players that ended up multiple year All Americans who played poorly in the UA game or never wasn't even selected. I agree especially the class of 2022 game when i saw Carter Booth, the 6-7 middle. She was sluggish, not very athletic, quick or agile. Maybe because of her height, non-college S & C program and just age. She was definitely better in those areas this past fall. I was surprised. This is where I was coming from as well. Like obviously a 6’6”+ female middle is going to get a lot of recruiting attention but, at times, she just didn’t look as polished ATHLETICALLY coming into her freshman season as she did when she got going in the Fall. I distinctly remember posting on VT that she looked completely different, way more dynamic, and how impressive that was. No one said she was a bad player, no one said she’s sucked. OBVIOUSLY SHE DOES NOT. There were just some times that she didn’t look great. The point I was making is that players’ games grow and develop, especially after training the athletic aspect of their game more intensely. Meaning, it doesn’t make sense to write off a bunch of athletes because they don’t wow you at first or aren’t Top 20 in stupid arbitrary ranking states systems. I swear some VT posters are so stupid and will just put whatever words they want into people’s mouths for the sake of feeling superior or whatever lol

I know of a '25 who's fielding something like 15 first time contact calls, in two days, from coaches who are going to want her to make a decision fairly soon. Explain to me again how this is better than the old system, please.

Explain to me again how this is better than the old system, please. I don’t think it is unfortunately. From my experience with recruiting since the change, the incoming junior class is definitely pressured to make a decision within a day or 2 of being offered. They’ll hear “the other player we offered has it narrowed down to us and so and so, but you’re our #1.” There’s definitely some positives with the rule change, but it’s a stressful couple days in June for these girls.

And of course the camps coincide with one another and that adds alot more expense on the player instead of just going over and visiting the campus for the day.

Before you had time to talk to coaches and slowly form a rapport with them. That could be followed by players going to camps and seeing campuses for themselves. I realize that I can only speak to my DD's experience, but the old format allowed her to have a concrete idea of which schools she wanted to seriously consider. It also allowed her to tell other schools "No thank you." before June 15th which made that part of the process much more manageable.

There were camps that my kid went to for free because of being "identified" in 8th grade.

While 15 offers is overwhelming, it's a great compliment to that player and a fantastic problem to have. And this is where parental/coaching guidance comes in. A 16 yo shouldn't have to make these kinds of decisions entirely on their own.
