Well I know Orr definitely was hyped like she was God's third child (after Jesus and Carlini). That was funny. She was not the 2nd coming of an athlete with the last name of Orr. The first one exceeded expectations, and those expectations were HUGE.

This annoys me. Maybe it's not rational or logical or seeing the future of athletics properly, but the whole idea just annoys me

I had stronger feelings about it years ago, but since it hasn't really taken off like I thought it would, it's affected me less over the years. It's obviously a big loss leader to help establish brand recognition and to provide vertical support for the rest of their operations. There are quite a few private schools around the country recruiting volleyball powerhouses way more effectively than IMG, and have been doing so for decades. But I'm interested in your thoughts.

Tbh, I'm not really sure. I can't articulate why I dislike the idea of specialized high schools. I think it's the whole notion of equality for me. Obviously, not even public schools are equal, but there is, at least, some semblance of equality there. Again, my feelings are not based on logic and reason. It's more of a "something about this feels icky to me" kinda thing.

What I don’t get is why we, the masses, should care about seemingly mundane life events of people we do not know 😑.

Obviously, not even public schools are equal, but there is, at least, some semblance of equality there. Again, my feelings are not based on logic and reason. It's more of a "something about this feels icky to me" kinda thing. That's enough for me. I appreciate your response. I wish there was more egalitarianism in education as well, across all disciplines. "Equality of opportunity" kind of stuff. But the truth is, if you have children, you want to give them every advantage you can. That's how it is with being a parent. While I do wish there was more equality of opportunity, the truth is that to achieve it to the level I wish existed, you'd have to take newborns away from parents at birth, and raise everyone in state institutions under as equal settings as possible. Since any normal person - including me - considers that absolutely horrific, we're stuck with a system that is not all that egalitarian. Which means we have extremely well funded high schools recruiting the most talented people in whatever discipline they're focusing on, to produce an unfair advantage versus kids who don't have that opportunity. I can tell you it's worse in other parts of the world, where children's futures are determined to a great extent when they show promise in one area or another, or they're consigned to a different sort of life because they do not show a particular aptitude early enough in life. None of that is to convince you it's not icky, of course. I just know IMG's reach has not been as pervasive in football and men's basketball as I thought it would be, and those are the two sports they've had the most success with in terms of recruiting talent. It will take time to create a competitive volleyball program. It's doubtful they'll be allowed to compete for the state championships, so their season ends up being a bunch of scrimmages against other programs who choose to schedule them. Until they amass some kind of talent, and assuming they made wise choices regarding their prep coaching, it's still going to take a while before they're even a factor. Lots of rumors of kids heading there to party on the beach, more than produce an overwhelming powerhouse in their chosen sport. Still, I sympathize with your view.

I always find this interesting. Just screams a club looking for attention. "Look at us! College coaches came to our gym!" For the love, people, act like you've been there before

I have Instagram, but mostly because it's a fun/easy place to keep all my travel pictures. I don't follow many accounts. And this is why.
