Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE Virginia in the B1G...but do they give them enough extra that Maryland already doesn't?

As someone who grew up in Pac12 country and now live in B1G country (and have done many of the road trips, I feel slightly qualified to talk about this)
You guys are being ridiculous about travel.
- As others touched on, it's not necessarily the distance in terms of miles, it's how *easy* it is to get to a certain place. It's easy to get in and out of LA--direct flights from almost every city. It's a lot easier to get to LA than it is to Madison or State College depending on where you're at. (I know football charters everywhere anyway). Direct Flights >> Flight + Bus Ride or long bus ride.
- Has anyone looked at the geographic maps some of the G5 conferences? The AAC, Conference USA, WAC MWC etc all have pretty lousy geographic profiles. (B12 isn't much better either) Somehow (despite also having less chartered flights available), those kids aren't failing classes or missing tons of class times.
- As the world gets smaller and smaller, conferences will become geographically further apart align by different ways. It's just a sign of the times.

This for football only.
The frequent flyer miles for USC and UCLA are going to rack up now that the Big Ten schedules are official.
USC will travel 16,134 miles for its Big Ten road trips, including trips to Penn State and Maryland in 2024.
UCLA will go 15,412 miles including trips to Michigan and Rutgers in 2024.
Conversely, Purdue travels 2,436 miles for its Big Ten away games. Ohio State goes 6,496 miles while Michigan travels 5,762 miles.
Cant wait to see the brutal flying schedules for women's volleyball and the basketball teams.
Please remember that USC and UCLA care about their student athletes.

If you’re going to complain, at least get compare it to something relevant, like the number of miles USC/UCLA will be traveling in the PAC-12 this year. Yes, it’s more. But it’s already still a flight for every road trip. It’s just turning 2 hour flights into 4 hour flights. So a grand total 10 additional hours of travel time per season. The horror!!!

USC and UCLA care about money. They generally spend all of the money they bring in. They care about winning. Bringing in more money means they can spend more money (and a lot of that money goes towards making the student athletes’ experience more luxurious).

Why is everyone concerned about how far UCLA and USC will have to travel. Hawaii does this on a regular basis in every major sport.
