Well I would be able to refute an objective, sound point. But your point is as sound as an out of tune oboe. Rettke's lateral speed is a major issue, especially against certain match-ups/teams.
Her best asset is her offense due to her length, but she can struggle against well-formed blocks because of her vertical. I'd still like to see her put more heat on the ball as well.
These objective points have been made repeatedly in this thread and others, to which you and your fellow homers always cry "bias! everyone hates Donna!" I wasn't aware I had to spell them out for you.
International fans want to see Rettke succeed. Badgers fans' (and other select homebases) victim complex "well, everyone is just biased against her" is tired and old.
Thank you for listening to my perfectly in tune oboe/TedTalk
I don’t disagree with your assessment of her need to develop her lateral quickness. As someone who watched her at Wisconsin and watches international volleyball, I am well aware of this 😉 What I’m calling bs on is your ability to be objective based on being a “non-homer.” Whether we like it or not, we’re all going to develop biases against players based on a number of factors, including where they play, and whether we like it or not, those biases do come up in our assessment of a player. Maybe the media coverage of a team leaves a mark on how they see a player, maybe a player beat their fav out for another player, etc., but not being a fan of a specific team does not automatically qualify anyone to be an objective judge of a player’s abilities. For Dana specifically, from my time on this site, she is a player who is quick to garner the community’s wrath whenever she makes a mistake (hence my “catching strays” comment). She’s not the only person who’s received this kind of flack, as players like Orro, Drews, CC McGraw, and Kennedi Orr (along with countless others) have been treated in a similar manner. There is little to no patience for a mistake or grace for a subpar performance; it quickly jumps into criticism (not critique) that is not consistent with the courtesy shown to others in their same positions when they have a subpar showing, and THAT is bias. There’s a difference between offering an opinion/assessment on a player (as you had in your earlier post) and “throwing strays” which frequently happens on here.

Is Dana gonna be the new Carlini? Lol
Dana grew into the match. She started slow. Her blocking is a concern. She went through a stretch where her attack was too. Can credit some of that to Hancock.
She served well. Gotta work on free balls lol

Well I would be able to refute an objective, sound point. But your point is as sound as an out of tune oboe. You could start by watching her pro matches. If your opinion is unmoved, then you’re objectively the problem. I have watched her matches and I know that she has things to improve on. I’m a fan, not a stan. 😝

One thing I liked watching this match was US serving. Too many errors, but it was more effective at getting Italy out of system. Much better than against Serbia.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t RJP the surprise of this match. In a good way? Discuss.

How many people began to sweat when USA was tied 18-18 in Set 4? That’s when Dana took over the game….. got the slide off the blockers hands to go 19-18, then served 4 straight point including an ace to break Italy🇺🇸 Then the stretch in the 5th with the solo block on Danaisi, the over the shoulder bump set assist to Annie and a burried overpass sent the opponent trying to find apertivo reservations back at the resort…
