Trying to save my thoughts about this Duke team until non-conference is over but I wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to Kerry Keefe. Kerry set a new career high in kills today with !!27!! Absolutely incredible. Now I'm begging the staff to stop beginning games in that terrible 6-2.

Swept by UNC twice, and now NC State? Impressive consistency! Maybe they should revisit that Wake Forest game from Friday and figure out what actually worked, because this current plan is definitely NOT cutting it… Since volleymom99 knows all, let's get into this because it's very obvious through this comment that not only do you not watch Duke but you also don't watch UNC, NC State & Wake Forest! Duke started off with the same starting lineup & similar game plan as Wake but guess what, NC State is a different team so it didn't work! I know it's shocking but Wake Forest has different strengths/weaknesses than NC State does! If you had watched any of the teams you would know that NC State and UNC are very similar matchup-wise and this current Duke team doesn't match up well with either of them, thus resulting in them getting swept. We just don't have the personnel on this year's roster to address certain problems. But I would love to hear about what you would have done differently against NC State & UNC because obviously you know more than me and the coaching staff! In all seriousness, this post reads like a poster that starts with g and ends with ibby. If you think you can escape what was exposed about you in the Nebraska thread and make a new account that you are v weird. Making another account to hate on Duke is pathetic. I'm not in the mood today to deal with this foolishness. Critique Duke all you want but atleast watch the team.

I've been a Duke fan for 15+ years and I've tried to refrain from criticizing Nagel the past few seasons but I think it's time for her to move on. She deserves credit for turning Duke into a pretty solid team in the mid-2000s with 13 NCAA tournament appearances between 2000-2018, including 9/10 between 2005-2014 and an Elite 8 run in 2010, but since then it's clear Duke has fallen off quite a bit. With the ACC becoming significantly stronger over the past decade, she has just not been able to keep up. Not being able to score more than 15 points in a set against NC St is a new low. The team's performance this season can't be blamed on injuries but instead reflects poor recruiting and lack of player development in my opinion. We actually have some good recruits coming in the next 2 years thanks to Jeremy Garcia so maybe there's hope for the future but I think it's time for a leadership change at the top. Although I hope not, I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry Keefe transfers for her last year as she deserves to play on an NCAA tournament team.

Wouldn't be a Duke season without a poster giving up on Nagel😭. In all seriousness, it feels like Nagel is here to stay unless she makes the decision to retire. I'm a bit resigned atp bc it's been discussed on here multiple times. I just don't think the AD will fire her, so it's just about when she decides to hang it up. Whenever Nagel leaves, I hope they go outside of her staff to find someone because I'm not sold on Kellie Catanach Johnson and I assume she's next in line. I'm trying to protect my peace but the development of particular players on this roster is concerning. You can tell on the home broadcasts that the commentators are getting frustrated at critiquing the same things every game for certain players. Respectfully, if this coaching staff is serious about winning/turning things around, the staff needs to go to the portal and get some quality undergrad transfers. I don't understand why other Duke sports get undergrad transfers, but this program doesn't, especially with how undergrad transfers have been difference makers in various other sports at Duke. They have multiple open scholarships. Use them. If they choose to change nothing after the season then I will be extremely disappointed.

Agree Catanach doesn't seem dynamic enough to take over and although Jeremy is been doing well recruiting, and seems to do majority of in match coaching, he doesn't have the resumw yet.

Duke hasn't posted their 2025 commits but all five (Charlotte Glass, Ashby Zubchevich, Zoë Gillen-Malveaux, Aly Donoghue & Olivia Wayne) signed today. Charlotte, Zoë and Jolene all spoke to VB adrenaline. Here are the notable parts from it. Hopefully I didn't miss anything major. Anything in blue is my commentary/adding context. **mentioned multiple times throughout all the interviews on the youth of this current Duke team which is true. If I'm being honest, based off what I've seen this season + the play of the 2024 + the potential of the 2025s, I think Kerry will be on the only upperclassman starting next season.** Zoë-didn't go to Duke camp, took visit to Duke with Charlotte, fell in love w the campus, knew immediately -good friends w/charlotte, wanted zoë to come and join her here but didn't put pressure on her -talked to lauren ingram (both from Dallas) before committing to Duke -described duke as a "community based team," spends time together on and off the court -mentions how coaches have a passion for each girl to make them a better volleyball player/student/person -talks about what she can bring to duke, energy, also can run the slide Charlotte-why duke: academics super important, wanted a balance of academic and athletics -family has been fans of duke for a long time, knew in her gut on visit that she wanted to come to duke -Mac asks what skills Charlotte will bring to Duke - charlotte says: aggressiveness in the front row, spreading balls to hitters, running different routes (shouts out Zoë and excited to set her), mentions how Ashby and Olivia are really dynamic
- also wants to experiment, run new tempos, new plays (A faster tempo would be great for Duke next year)
-mentions how being in a program with young players so much opportunity for growth. 2025 Duke vb roster has 9 underclassman to 7 upperclassmanJolene Nagel -very excited about the class, this class brings a lot of size, skill & athleticism **couldn't talk on the call about the players individually because of compliance but spoke very generally**-mentions having multiple young players on the court this season -she has been encouraged, not discouraged by the development in the team this season, likes their work ethic in matches (think this is directed at the freshman, Mailinh, Taylor & Breonna)-no 2025 commit coming early, excited to work with the team next spring, have encouraged her that they keep getting a little better every day -new kids will compliment the returnees, does see them pushing the veterans, -will be young in some new positions again (MB, DS, & S i'm assuming)-interesting question: vb adrenaline guy goes into how hard it is to build a program and to climb in a good conference, asks what it takes to build a winning culture especially bc Duke isn't a volleyball school: - Long Answer: Nagel talks about how every institutions have different obstacles, could be finances, varying support etc. Highlights Duke has different admission standard than most/rest of conference. Academic criteria is a challenge that can vary from school. What works at one school might not work at another because the type of student athlete, the resources etc. Nagel closes how you try to do best you can, make sure to recruit right type of student athletes
-vb guy goes into select camp that happened this past summer, mentions how camp loaded with top prospects, asks if can talk about it and if the camp is new - jolene say they have done that camp for a couple of years, branding of duke has helped future recruits be interested in coming to camp
-vb guy mentions having a list of kids that attended, if Duke gets a third of them in 2027, then will rank them in top 10 recruiting class. Jolene jokes that she will get Jeremy on it right away. -important about building a program is recruiting, excited about younger players -getting back to normal with grad students fading, roster limits & scholarships new challenges ahead.

What's the status on Kadel? I couldn't find anything on goduke.com or google... Sorry just now responding to this. Duke VB can be hush hush on injuries unless it's season ending. From the last home broadcast, the commentator talked to Nagel and he said that Kadel is day-to-day. She has knee issues that occurred before this season and they got bad a couple weeks ago. She played 1 set against Clemson a week and a half ago, but who knows if we will see her again. Staff is being careful with her.
