Remarkable play for Penn this set. An absolute game changer. I know her blocking ability is a question mark but if they go back to a 5-1, she needs to be the setter.

They look so much better with Penn running the show.

Is this male announcer Duke’s typical announcer? I’m impressed with his ability to call a match on his own without too many awkward breaks.

DUKE WINS 3-2!! Why does Jolene make everything so hard. Also 500th career win for Nagel at Duke.

Very impressed with Colgate. Not impressed at all with Duke.

Kadel looked solid, hopefully she can pick up her blocking though

1. Keefe on the left side is definitely not ideal but I can understand why Nagel moved her there since there are no other legit options at OH sadly besides freshman Williams. It also allows Keefe to stay on the floor 6-rotations while they continue to flirt with the 6-2. Keefe's passing was honestly better than I expected (not sure if she ever really passed in high school/club?) but still a liability at times. 2. I'm glad to see Iloh finally found a way to contribute - she had some good swings from the middle and right. I'd consider switching her and Keefe at OH/OPP but she looks even more awkward swinging on the left than Keefe understandably. 3. Kadel was impressive- 16K, .625, 5 blocks. She seems to have the MB1 spot locked down. Good to see her come back strong after losing her starting spot last year. 4. Agreed setting looked better with Penn. I think Duke also needs her 5th year leadership/experience. I'd like to see her in a 5-1 even if she's a blocking liability but I think Nagel will continue to tinker with the 6-2. 5. Williams had a decent freshman debut, definitely a work in progress but potential is there. 6. Godschall was excellent- libero position is in good hands the next 4 years, hope her injury is minor. 7. Goss was a pleasant surprise for a freshman at MB2 but I'd like to see what Paalman can do, as her experience/leadership could also be valuable. 8. DS play was underwhelming- Underwood/Tomlak will both need to play better to stabilize the passing.
All in all, giving all the moving parts/new pieces for Duke, not a bad 1st game considering Colgate has been to the last 3 NCAA tournaments and was picked to win the Patriot league again this year with multiple senior/5th year returners.

Just want to say this is a great write-up! Agree on everything really. I think the only thing I want to add is I kind of want to see more of Hamlin. I liked what we saw from her in sets 4-5.

If you’re beating Colgate in a thriller, you’re going to get worked in your conference. (Again)

Good adjustment keeping Keefe on the right at all times. They need her to hit efficiently. This team needs to figure out their defense though. Tip coverage is concerning and our block is either not closing out or just getting tooled.
Also, Ngozi shouldn't be serving.

This will get better over time but if Penn has three options, she should prioritize going to Kadel or Keefe. Not the OHs.

interesting. Ingram in for Williams. White for Goss. Looks like Ingram is playing six rotations? Which means Underwood is DS for Iloh? Much better.

What's it going to take for Underwood to serve. When she was at libero in 2022, she was third on the team in aces. Also, blocking sub Muir for Penn for like one rotation.

Won second set 28-26. Much better defensively. Lot of credit goes to Ingram there. I really think this offense should run primarily through Kadel and Keefe. Kadel could definitely average 3kps.
