Thank you my friend, I wonder if Hollywood is finally figuring out what kind of movies people like. Probably not.

Thank you my friend, I wonder if Hollywood is finally figuring out what kind of movies people like. Probably not. Yeah, people like action movies, which is what Sound of Freedom is - it’s “Taken” set in South America. It also was “tranced” at the box office by Indiana Jones the very next day.

I don't know anything about Sound of Freedom, but this seems like a disappointment for Indiana Jones. Might have to do with Harrison Ford being 80. Might have to do with the last Indiana Jones movie being such a disaster. I distinctly remember taking my girlfriend to that movie when I was living in Manhattan, wasting $28 on it, and then being so disappointed that I insisted on watching Last Crusade as soon as we got back to my apartment. Anyway, when I saw the trailer for this one prior to watching Across the Spiderverse, I told my sister that it looked "not terrible," but that wasn't enough reason to watch it.

Why would Hollywood promote a film that wasn't produced by a Hollywood studio?

It looks like it might end up making some money for its producers depending on how fast it drops off over the weekend. Good for them. I’m not seeing a point here.

Why would Hollywood promote a film that wasn't produced by a Hollywood studio? I should’ve expanded on that and said the entertainment industry. Serious question. Why are Democrats not on this child exploitation thing big time? That would be usually something they are champion of?

A surprising opening day vs a movie that had been out a few days. Indy had a $24 million opening day and consistent box office the next few days. I've been seeing ads for it before watching YouTube videos, so it's not as if they haven't done any advertising. So it's got a promotional budget.

If you're talking about human trafficking, I believe there's been a number of films and documentaries on that subject over the past ten years. It's not an unusual plotline or news subject.

I think Sound of Freedom has overperformed and Indiana Jones has underperformed, but are we really comparing an 18M world wide box vs. a 159M world wide box? It's good they've made back their budget and will be profitable though.
Q Fans deserve a movie they can go to and enjoy too. It doesn't sound like there's anything damaging to the world in that movie, other than it being untrue. (And possibly a Q recruiting platform--but most of the target audience is already a member)

It was clear he thinks this is somehow "owning the libs", but I had no idea how.

So, after taking a closer look, the business side of Sound of Freedom is interesting. The film was made 5 years ago, it was a 21st Century Fox property but didn't release it. Then Disney briefly owned it before the original producer bought back the rights and shopped it around, eventually landing a deal with Angel Studios, a small, faith-based production company. I'm guessing the movie has some religious overtones to it, which would explain Jimmy Caviezel starring in it. Angel used crowdfunding to get the movie into wide release, and came up with a twist to boost ticket sales - a "pay it forward" kind of deal where you can buy multiple tickets even if you're not going to use them and put them in a pool of sorts where another person can apply and receive a ticket for free. It definitely boosted ticket sales for the opening day. This isn't something that would make sense for major studios, but it might be an interesting business model for independent outfits. Indiewire has a pretty good breakdown: www.indiewire.com/news/business/sound-of-freedom-box-office-analysis-crowdfunding-pay-it-forward-1234881363/

That would be usually something they are champion of? We actually are, we just don't fundraise off of it. Obama's Justice for Victims of Human Trafficking Act was a major meaningful step. This was an actually one of Obama's pet issues and a lot of his early work on it is largely ignored: Here's some reading: obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/issues/foreign-policy/end-human-trafficking
