I actually think this is the least likely outcome. Don't sell Japan short. They didn't start Inoue or Hayashi when our B-/C team played them in the league round. We really don't know how well we are going to match up against them. Last year in the 2022 tournament, they spanked us 3-0 with basically their same starters they are using for the finals this year. Granted, USA also wasn't playing with it's best line-up either. We didn't play Japan again the remainder of 2022 so this should be an exciting match. I won't be at all shocked if it goes 5 sets. At this point, this year, I think we're all shocked when USA DOESN'T get to set 5 I'm fine if we go 5 sets, I just hope we win. I hope Karch shuffles the pack if things aren't working. It's time to see what these USA newbies can do. I'm excited! Hoping for some breakout performances! |

Agreed. Its never wise to discount Japan given their defensive prowess. That being said, US do tend to do better in the finals, result-wise, if we look at their record. Of course, past results are no guarantee for the future... |
