From the early going, Drake is going to the favorite after this first weekend. I like what I see.
Meanwhile Illinois State looks tragic... I get its only year 2... but like... no bueno

UNI struggling a bit in the first weekend. My totally amateur, non-expert analysis is that their passing needs to improve (which would allow the setter to have more options, thus establishing better attacks). Also too many service and hitting errors for my liking, though that's not unusual for first weekend action.
It's possible the new players are able to improve and gel by the time conference play rolls around, (or perhaps they'll struggle with it all year and have another subpar season; too soon to tell). But they're bound to take more lumps in these next few non-conference weekends.

Bradley went 3-0 to start the season. Yeah, I know, not great competition, but yay for winning!

UNI will be toughened up and ready for conference play - they always are - but can they get by Drake?

As of right now the recruiting class of 2023 looks pretty questionable too; two haven’t seen the court while the other is hitting negative for the season before getting “the boot” (sorry couldn’t resist the pun).

There was no reason the Birds shouldn’t have been contending for the MVC title. I know losing prondzinski and Lund killed us, but part of me wonders if they really medically retired or just wanted out…
