HistoryThe series: Baylor leads 3-2. In Madison: Tied 1-1 In Waco: Baylor leads 1-0 Neutral: Tied 1-1 Last meeting: Baylor won in 5 sets on 8/27/2022 in Fort Worth, Texas. Did you know…? On this day in history - August 25, 2012 - the Voyager 1 spacecraft left the heliosphere, the part of space that is influenced by our sun. Voyager 1 has been operating for 45 years, 11 months and 20 days as of the date of this match, and its mission continues to this day, as it transmits data through NASA's Deep Space Network from more than 15 billion miles away. You can track its real-time progress through space on the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory website. Its mission is scheduled to continue through 2025, at which point its three radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs) will no longer have enough power to operate its scientific instruments. Voyager 1's trajectory seen from Earth, diverging from the ecliptic in 1981 at Saturn and now heading into the constellation Ophiuchus
Voyager 1 made flybys of Jupiter, Saturn, and Saturn's largest moon, Titan, on its way out of the heliosphere. It made a number of important observations and discoveries about the planets and their moons: It was the first to photograph Jupiter's planetary rings, which had not been seen before; it also discovered volcanic activity on the Jovian moon, Io. In February 1990, the spacecraft had passed Neptune and was speeding out of the solar system when, at Carl Sagan's suggestion, the mission managers commanded it to look back home for a final time and take one last picture of Earth. The resulting image would become known as the Pale Blue Dot. It depicts Earth as a tiny speck of light, smaller than a pixel, barely visible in a band of sunlight reflected by the camera. While the photo has minimal scientific value, it provides meaningful prespective on humanity's place in the universe. The Pale Blue Dot

Time for Baylor to upset again I, morbidly curious, went back to the 2022 Box Score. The Badgers got out-blocked 16-14, didn't get much offense out of the middles and Baylor hit .316 in the 5th set [.217 for The Badgers]. If The Badgers play another match like that I'll be shaking my head in disbelief, at least until it explodes.

Hey, it’s not Facebook Live. That's because the Gophers know how to host.
(Now that statement could come back to bite me if B1G+ video sucks, which it has a tendency to do sometimes)

Not on BTN-Plus, at least not on Friday. Both matches are on regular BTN, and both days.

Time for Baylor to upset again Baylor is 3-1 against Wisconsin in pre-conference matches under McGuyre. 2018: #15 Baylor def. #2 Wisconsin (3-1) 2019: #17 Baylor def. #4 Wisconsin (3-1) 2021: #2 Wisconsin def. #10 Baylor (3-1) 2022: #16 Baylor def. #3 Wisconsin (3-2) It’ll probably take a lot for Baylor to pull the upset this season, but that also seems to be the story every year when these two play.

Wisconsin has been relatively pedestrian in the non-conference for a few years, so who knows, but looking at the Baylor scrimmage, if it's Stowers v. the Wisconsin block, I'm going to place my money on the Wisconsin block.

The connection with Smrek that day (and sometimes just Smrek hitting) was maybe the worst it was all year. There were balls that would normally have been kills - one on one situations where she just had a lot of errors (11 errors that day hitting -.111). I think WI wins otherwise. As you mention, though, there were other reasons, of course. And like you I don't think I see any of this happening again.

I’m a little shocked that Baylor took that really young team from last year...and somehow made themselves younger. I was surprised last year when Baylor took the Badgers in 5. I’ll be even more shocked this year. Part of the issue in my mind is that Wisconsin won’t be adjusting to the 6-2 in the same way after running it all last season. To my eyes (on the notorious Facebook Live feed) that seemed to be part of the issue. BTW, before we bag on the Facebook feed too much, thank you to the Wisconsin fan who chose to make it available for all of us. It was much appreciated.

Wisconsin looked terrible over that first weekend last year. First time they had played in a 6-2. I was shaking my head half the time. The straightened out and won the B1G. I think it doesn't make sense to project last years performance to this year.
That said, crazier things have happened. Sheffield could make a bad call on the lineup and the balance could shift.

Wisconsin has been relatively pedestrian in the non-conference for a few years, so who knows, but looking at the Baylor scrimmage, if it's Stowers v. the Wisconsin block, I'm going to place my money on the Wisconsin block. Stowers was phenomenal against a VERY big Texas A&M block, going for 6 kills/set, hitting .300. But I do agree that they can’t just rely on her against Wisconsin- she’s not quite Yossiana Pressley (but who is?). Something to note though, is that it looked like Baylor had an off passing night. I truly expect Briseño, Dacosta, and Keene to be one of the best passing trios in the nation this year so I’m hoping they were able to shake any of the preseason jitters they may have been experiencing. Hopefully with better passing will come more production out of Bibinbe, who really didn’t have a bad night against A&M. Actually if you look at just the projected starting hitters for Baylor, they hit .256, with Sczech being the only one to hit under .270 (she’s an absolute wildcard this season). I’m hoping that if Baylor relies on Stowers against Wisconsin, it’s because they can rather than because they have to.
