I think Devin will get significant playing time during the conference schedule, probably against the "easier" teams at the beginning. JE needs to get her prepped for the post-Molly future and also to stave off the Portal When he has really ever done that, though (during conference season)? Didn't do that last season for Parra or Devin. I think Devin plays more if/when Molly struggles; if she clearly performs better in practice and in those matches where she subs in for (a struggling) Molly, then she has the chance to become the starter. Devin will probably get some starts after the Stanford match; but, I think Jerritt will focus on this season and getting those players on the court to gel; worrying about next season and who might enter the transfer portal in the offseason is counterproductive. For sure he did it for Parra last year; there were at least 2 matches where she played the whole time and Logan sat - one of them was the UC Davis game where the coach took it personally that his team got the B Team and had that asinine challenge. In any case, last year was a different situation - first, Molly had already announced her intention to return this season. so "post-Molly" was a more distant future. Second, you can have a high-caliber freshman like Devin (mostly) on the bench for the year and be reasonably sure that they don't enter the Portal - freshmen just can't expect to start on a team like Texas. But you sit her for 2 out of her 4 years of eligibility, that's gonna make someone with skills and options unhappy. Third - we have a longer season/more games this year, with the expansion of the Big 12. JE has to worry about fatigue/injury and rest starters more.

The second thing is that Texas targeted Landfair with every single serve. I mean, it was unrelenting. And she was horrid. Not just getting aced 10 times, but her terrible contacts put her team in a horrible position over and over again. To me she was UT’s most valuable player. It was unbelievable how bad she was. But more unbelievable is that Cook hung her out to dry. You’re supposed to put your players in a position to succeed, but Cook put her in a position to fail. The only rationale I can think of is that he was willing to sacrifice the outcome of this match to humble Landfair in some way so she and the team would become more open to a different approach, which if he tried to implement without the results of this match would be entirely ineffective. It was very disheartening to see Landfair try and battle through it, which I think was Cook's only rationale. Taylor does not need to be humbled, she is very humble to begin with. He also doesn't have a ton of options, having used his only spare DS players as serving subs for the middles. He did move Hanson into SR once. The worst was the few times Landfair made an 2 or 3 pass, the Gophers failed to convert and extended the misery. I thought Landfair's 5 RE's was mainly due to Parra against TCU. She had 3 more against Baylor, but 7 is simply not sustainable. Will see if adjustments are made on Saturday in Gainsville.

But I think you understand my gist generally Having different starting lineups against some of the less challenging non-conference teams has been the norm; that is when we'll likely see Singletary and Byrd start several sets, if not the entire matches. In the tougher matches, Devin is more likely to be first off the bench if one of the pin hitters is struggling, or if Jerritt needs Molly in the middle for whatever reason. I definitely haven't conceded that Molly will hold onto the starting Opposite spot all season IF Devin outperforms her. On the flip side, your normal starters want to pile up the stats in order to earn post-season awards; can't do that if you are only playing in the tougher matches.

Getting Parra in last year was the correct decision. He does a good job putting bench players in pressure situations if god forbid a starter goes down. Devin will get a lot of playing time this year. She knew Molly was returning and also decided to return. Texas has 2 top 25 right sides on the team.

What I didn't understand is why Landfair never tried to take one or two steps up and try to pass with her hands as opposed to her platform. She's so tall that she would've been able to discern whether or not something was going out but I figured she would make mid-game adjustments on her own but it didn't look like that was happening.

That was her main issue last night and Skinner definitely took advantage mixing up short and long serves.

Anyone have passing numbers yet for this match? I would like to see what Texas’s players numbers were compared to last week.

Barnes and Wenaas's stats are weird bc of jersey numbers and stuff, but it looks like Barnes was 1.96 on 26 balls and Wenaas was 1.86 on 7 Halter passed a 2.77 on 27 balls and Akana passed a 2.75 on 4 balls, Skinner passed a 2.00 on 16 balls as a team Texas passed 2.19 and yall...for Minnesota: Landfair 1.7 on 57 balls, Wucherer 1.71 on 17 balls, Murr 1.69 on 8 balls as a team they passed a 1.75 - ouch

It’s kinda hard to not think this is going to be a dragging im maybe one of the few that thinks this MAY have been nothing more than a bad weekend for texas or maybe some type of cold / minor sickness going around on the team idk... im still trying to make sense as to how on earth they went from looking like they did in the spring to looking like they do now, and the answer to that question is not oneals absence... Elliot should be fired if that was the case lmao. this match will confirm, for me, if texas actually has all these things to work out or if they just had a bad 24 hours in Long Beach I think I was right

Texas looked more like Texas this match than they did last weekend.

I don't trust those Barnes passing numbers btw there's something up with the way they're associating her passes with her name; she was definitely better than that
