Your comparison is completely faulty. You want to use that comparison then Franklin-Orzol’s team USA counterparts are Wilhite-Parsons and Kingdon-Rishel… not Kelsey Robinson-Cook. To which Plummer is playing over SWP & MKR. Franklin, and especially Orzol, are literally Robinson-Cook This is the wildest thing ever said on the internet. Team USA wins one gold medal and all the sudden the casuals think they know volleyball 🤦♂️

6-2 is hard because you need two setters with similar skill for it to make sense - if you have one elite setter, you run a 5-1. Since elite setters make such a huge difference and it's hard to stockpile two of them, most often you end up seeing 6-2's with no elite setters. And a 5-1 with 1 elite setter is better than a 6-2 with 0 elite setters. It takes an awful lot of firepower to win without an elite setter. Penn State almost did it in 2017 with a 6-2 - "a trip away", as some say. And they had Haleigh Washington, Simone Lee and Ali Frantti. So I don't love our chances. But with our personnel, it's the best system we have (I think Sheff would have switched to a 5-1 if he could have landed Podraza in the portal). I personally prefer Ashburn and Hammil to Podraza. She is a good setter, but I would take Hilley or Carlini over her any day. In other words, I think she is good but not elite. That's a reasonable take. I'm honestly not sure. If Sheff tries going 6-2 with Fuerbringer and Horner (or Fuerbringer and anyone) then we'll know he is committed to the system. Otherwise, I think we can assume he's basing his system on personnel.

Gillen is just such a warrior. I've admired her for years.

Anyway, this game looked better. Jill Gillen is a crazy player but I think we played a lot better today and hopefully leveled up as a team a little bit over these two days.

Top 5 kill leaders for Wisconsin have 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 kills. Love the balance.

I think he told Hammil that and that is why she decided to move on after this year and not use her COVID year in Wisconsin.

When it was being 'considered' spring of 2022, I looked back at stats for his various years at Albany, etc. I think I found one year when he had run it. So I'm pretty sure he runs 5-1 unless the personnel just forces the 6-2 on him, like this team does.
