It's so interesting/weird because some outlets are saying the 1.659 million viewership was for the Minnesota/Wisconsin match, while other outlets are saying it was for BOTH that match and the Michigan/Ohio State match combined?

From what I've seen it was someone saying Wisc/Minn and everyone running with that (Wisc socials, Ehman's socials, a couple different tweets, etc) the official sources (Ratings, FOX, B1G) have all said its both matches combined.

From what I've seen it was someone saying Wisc/Minn and everyone running with that (Wisc socials, Ehman's socials, a couple different tweets, etc) the official sources (Ratings, FOX, B1G) have all said its both matches combined. Those numbers for both matches makes more sense to me than just for Wisconsin/Minnesota. Nothing against either team! It just seems unremarkably high to be just for one match, even if it would have been a Wisconsin v. Nebraska match.

If it is the combined viewers, then they have numbers for each somewhere. Show them. They didn’t combine the NFL games in each/both timeslot(s), so why the VB?

They do though. the only one that isnt combined is Sunday Night football. They can be rated for each market/game.. but there's more interest to do that in football than one one-off volleyball match.

This strikes me as an attempt at national audience for the specific network. Everyone has access and can watch the sunday night football, so that's a national audience by itself. Sitting in Madison WI, I can only watch the packers/vikings at noon, on fox, and can only watch badgers/gophers at 4. If I am in detroit, i get a different combo of volleyball and football and can not see the madison options. To get to a comparable 'national audience perspective', you have to combine the football and volleyball regional offerings. The volleyball viewers number has to be mostly badgers/gophers because it was shown(on the main fox channel) in a greater fraction of the nation and was a more attractive match. If that match was shown everywhere(true national audience), the numbers may not have been too much different than the combined matches - you lose ohio st/michigan specific rooting interest, but the more attractive badger/gopher was a better draw for those not watching solely to see their preferred school.

Agreed. No doubt the viewership for the Badger match exceeded the old record of 1.2M. I would be surprised is OSU Mich was more than 200k. But I wish they broke it out.

I dont think anyone is disagreeing that Wisc/Minn had more.
OSU-Michigan were still in major markets (Boston, NYC, Miami, Atlanta, etc)... so I dont think its a terrible stretch to assume they contributed their own share (without knowing the market metrics themselves).

Plus, OSU-Michigan was a much better match (surprisingly). Even though it was on FS2 for me, I ended up watching way more of that match than Wisconsin-Minnesota.

Oklahoma-Iowa State: 206,000 (ESPN) Oregon-Washington: 96,000 (ESPN) 110,000 people changed the channel because of Oregon’s ugly court.

Only a certain group of VTers will care
but Nebraska matches are +110,000 per match compared to date of the 2022 equivalents (so matches from august-november 6)
(If i have enough time patience, ill try to do the rest of the ncaa)

I think most ppl who follow ratings hope all the teams do well but, realistically, Nebraska is going to do the best.

I know this will make heads explode, but the stars have aligned in 2023 for Nebraska with the stadium 🏟️ game, the Stanford match, and the 3 hour match with Wisconsin to attract some new, but mostly the casual to watch this team when they are being televised. Add to that they start 4 freshman, one sophomore and two juniors and don’t have a senior on the team, well the story builds, and then you throw-in they are beating all of the older more experienced teams like Stanford and the portal franken-teams like Wisconsin and Penn State. So in a year of remarkable attention on college volleyball, Nebraska is standing out, it seems like they have drawn record-sellout crowds to every B1G venue this year including a 20 year high of 6500 in State College last Friday and over 6700 in Piscataway on Sunday. And the head exploding truth is that attention is continuing to build every week, so no matter how far they advance in the tournament this year, their youth will ensure their place as college volleyball’s Americas team for at least the next 3 years. And can you imagine if they win the championship this year?…or their assistant coach Jordan Larson wins another gold medal in Paris next summer?…along with 2 other former Nebraska players who look to make that team? This is a great time for college volleyball, but maybe a better time for Nebraska volleyball. . . A lot of people want a Nebraska-Wisconsin NCAA championship, but I think most Nebraska fans want Texas to be that other team in the final in Tampa… can you imagine those viewer numbers on ABC? and never forget, 4 freshman, 1 sophomore and 2 juniors… We’ll see how it goes 🏐
