Jegdic and uzelac were both sick. I don’t think Uzelac was cleared to play. Tijana is dealing with a foot injury. And we still lost 15-13 in the 5th ugh. So close even with a lot of sickness and injuries to key players what i'm reading is at VNL semis and euros finals, turkiye escaped with a win. so they are beatable and not dominant like some people would have you believe uh yea. They are very very good but like Italy choked a 2-1 lead while being up 20-17 in set four. Serbia went up 2-1 against Turkey playing the best game in their history. Like legit look at the stats. Zehra hit 100 Vargas had 41 Eda and Zehra both had 15 points and they passed great lol. I’m not sure they could physically play better than they did and it almost wasn’t enough. They are very good but not unbeatable. We could take them in a rematch: I believe that for sure

Chinese fans have very high expectations and don't tolerate losing...very well. This is why whoever assumes the position of coach of the national women volleyball team has a mountain of pressure on his or her back. That being said, as Steve said, some Chinese fans are indeed warming up to Cai Bin, or at least are a little less harsh on him. But overall, fans are still skeptical of Cai Bin, unless he wins an international championship (which Cai has yet to do), will fans give the coach the respect he or she may have deserved. This is random - but do Chinese fans tend to support (or despise) any other national teams more than another? Do they hate USA more/less than Brazil? Japan/Korea? Obviously China having probably some of the largest fanbases in the world in raw numbers this may not be easy to determine, but, I know you say you read a lot of their comments/feedback so I figured you might know. Er...depends. For a while Chinese fans were rooting for the US, when Lang Ping was coaching them. It didn't hurt that players like Logan Tom was playing in the Chinese League, hence allowing fans to develop some familiarity with US players. Of course, there was a minor controversy when US under Lang Ping beat China at Beijing 2008, with some fans calling Lang Ping a "traitor", but that settled down pretty quick. As for hate...eh, thats a strong word. I recall some fans didn't like the fact Cuba was trouncing China in the 90s, but that was a relatively minor sentiment, as Cuba was trouncing pretty much all other teams in the 90s. In fact, I believe quite a few fans respected legendary Cuban players like Mireya Luis and Regla Torres. The closest to hate would be Japan. Although "contempt" would be a more accurate description. Chinese fans call Japan "little Japan". That sentiment is wrapped up in the larger issue of Chinese nationalism and the strained relations between the two countries that dates from WW2, so its a bit beyond the topic at hand. I will say however, that feeling of contempt that some Chinese fans have for Japan is ironic, given the historical fact that it was China who invited the famous "Oriental witches", the 1964 Olympic gold medal winning Japanese team, to come to China and teach their volleyball training style to China. So the origin of the success of China in women volleyball had Japanese roots.

China has a very favorable schedule. They play all their matches at the same time. They have a nice mix of days off and also play the lesser-ranked teams first (and work up to the higher-ranked teams). I haven't looked but are the other hosts scheduled the same way?
Canada plays the Netherlands and then the Dominican Republic with less than 24 hours between matches. They would probably do better with a few "easier" matches to warm up as they were quite rusty after the NORCECA continental championships. Their starters hadn't played since the VNL due to having some time off to recuperate from injuries (they still have some injuries, unfortunately). They typically start slow in tournaments and playing the Netherlands (who have been playing well) will be a tough test to start the tournament. With their limited bench, playing the better teams from the start might in some ways be good for them.
I think the Dominican Republic playing Canada (after Canada plays the Netherlands with less than a 24-hour break) will be advantageous for them. They also seem to play better when well-rested.

I thought everyone had the same day off. With hosts seeded #1, the round robin rules dictate that they play from 8 to 2.

the round robin rules dictate that they play from 8 to 2. I have always wanted to challenge that in all tournaments. I wouldn't mind a random schedule instead. I think this format increases the chances of: 1 team already being qualified going into the last day against a team that MUST win to qualify. I'd rather the most important matches happen towards the middle of the tournament in a pool play round-robin format, but I might be in the minority.

I think this is the best line-up China can come up without Zhu. Opposite is the biggest question mark but I like the contrast of Gong and Zheng. Zheng have been adapting the role that Zhou Suhong was doing in the early 2000s. She's been training with the national team with this exact role for the past 2-3 years now so we will see if this finally come into fruition. But right now i only see her coming in to sub and shake things up but not a starter.

Fairly determining the second place in a tournament is never easy. Perhaps double elimination is the most fair way to do it. Six groups of four each is preferable, although for that there is luck in the draw.

Almost no spectators in BUL-BEL game is... tragic.
Much better crowd for SRB-MEX game though. But probably a lot of free tixs.
