Kudos to ISU for fighting back as they did. Hawks got tentative, as I feared they would. Also, we did not adjust in any way once things started to shift. Where was coaching to at least mix it up and get our RS hitter set? There were literally no blockers near Deery many times...at least give some different looks to ISU's defense. Was listening to John Evans and Reghan Coyle (both so knowledgeable, IMO) on their broadcast and they said at least 10 times that sets needed to be higher and that we were not mixing things up offensively. Completely agree. We saw what the Hawks are capable of in beginning of the match but this one hurts. Again, ISU is a solid team and made great adjustments. Congrats to them.

Based on the posts here I thought this was going to be a murder Murders are for crows, not Hawkeyes or Cyclones (which are birds, somehow) hey, if Stanford can have a tree for a mascot, Iowa State can have a bird also, I went to check the stats link from this thread and it says: "This event occurs in about 115 months. Please check back on that day to view the stats." Because somehow the date got set as February 6, 2033 |

I still contend that our own Frosh Iowa athlete on the right would have come through similarly if she would have been given the chance. Understand the first couple sets were not stellar for Gabby, but we literally NEVER set the right in last 2 1/2 sets. And wow, has to be stated that Buettner was again just outstanding. 23 kills and hit .345 on 58 swings, a lot of which were off of not great sets. She just cannot do it all. |

Miss John Evans on the play by play. He's great, isn't he? You can still listen to him (and this sidekick, Reghan Coyle) by using the link on Hawkeyesports.com to the radio broadcast. I do that then I mute the sound on the BTN+ video and voila...you have the best of both worlds! Sometimes a little out of sync to start but you can pause one or the other to get them synced up.  |

To me, it looked like conditioning played a factor. Which is interesting since the hawks were coming off a home tournament and the Cyclones were 2 time zones away in AZ all weekend.
Did not expect to see Gonzalez struggle so much, but an Iowa product in Schmitt coming up HUGE is so fitting for this rivalry.

Based on the posts here I thought this was going to be a murder Just watched the replay on the +. (Went to the Nebraska game and they are really showing big improvement.) Buettner is All American potential. She was the best player on the court. Iowa had a real chance to sweep ISU. If the ball bounced Iowa’s way they win in 3. That to me is a major deal. Major improvement from a team full of new players. I had no idea how Iowa would perform vs ISU but much respect for a great showing. |
