Based on the posts here I thought this was going to be a murder Just watched the replay on the +. (Went to the Nebraska game and they are really showing big improvement.) Buettner is All American potential. She was the best player on the court. Iowa had a real chance to sweep ISU. If the ball bounced Iowa’s way they win in 3. That to me is a major deal. Major improvement from a team full of new players. I had no idea how Iowa would perform vs ISU but much respect for a great showing. Agree. Iowa has made sizable gains. Certainly out of the bottom four. It will be interesting to see if those gains are rewarded in the conference. Buettner is very good but the defenses in the B1G will be set to stop her. Iowa’s biggest problem may come down to mediocre play at the setter position. They need to find one either in the portal or recruit one. They look like a 8th or 9th place team in the B1G for this fall. Who knows… 🏐

Murders are for crows, not Hawkeyes or Cyclones (which are birds, somehow) hey, if Stanford can have a tree for a mascot, Iowa State can have a bird also, I went to check the stats link from this thread and it says: "This event occurs in about 115 months. Please check back on that day to view the stats." Because somehow the date got set as February 6, 2033 Iowa State always used a bird as a mascot. The 'Cyclone' name dates to a football game against Northwestern circa 1900. State gobsmacked Northwestern and the Chicago Tribune ran a headline like 'Northwestern struck by Iowa Cyclone' and the name stuck with the team from that point on.

This was an entertaining match. I thought I was going to watch Iowa State take it to Iowa but the reverse happened. If Iowa #6 kills the ball past a single block in the 3rd set they sweep. Setting inconsistencies plagued them in sets 4/5. But have to say I was shocked at the firepower from Iowa.

Granted none played last year--injured, a transfer, or a new freshman. Huge gains. If setting can improve and a little better passing can take place the rest of the season, Iowa will win some matches and be a tough out on many nights in the conference.
