I have to say, it was pretty amazing to see Texas come back and win this match. After that first set, I anticipated a clean and decisive sweep by BYU. But the grit and determination they had was incredible. Also incredible was the crowd at Gregory. Seeing a match a second time here from a neutral perspective was pretty incredible. I can see how you all love Gregory. Pretty cool experience and hopefully will see both Kansas matches next week!

Caught the replay for set 1 and my god…. there is actually no way a team ever let Barnes in that libero jersey. Being targeted as a DS on SR is crazy. But also giggling that Wenaas is being denied 6-ro for Barnes. Maybe it’s karma for the superstar transfer team of 2022 😗

Nice recovery and win for Texas after giving up the huge run in the first set. As a coach, I would take a serve into the net on the 13th serve of the rotation, any day!

earnest question, but doesn't Nebraska chant "Go Big Red" the same way? No, occasionally but not on every single point. It really is annoying. Especially when you listen to it for an hour plus. Indeed it is profoundly annoying. Funny it's pretty loud yet no one I know would ever think of doing it. Maybe it's mostly a student thing? Although I sat next to a fully grown human mature adult a few matches ago who insisted on doing the chant every.single.time throughout the entire match. In this monotone that made it seem as though he had been captured and held hostage by the North Korean intelligence service. I learned from that experience some of the keys to the chant process, e.g. if "We" gets blocked back you just act like nothing happened and start again with a new "We". Like Jimmy Jr. said to Kayla, "not yum, weird and bizarre". |

I think Texas has had a lot of experience with comebacks - more so in the last decade or so. BYU always feels like a barn burner. It’s difficult to understand how badly the floor fell out in that first set BUT that type of adversity will create resiliency for the group and I hope it’s not a mystery to the coaches what exactly fell apart - beyond the obvious stat sheet - what was going on psychologically with the team. There’s that high level consistency that’s missing from all six on the court that we’ve seen and become somewhat accustomed to. But statistically it’s very difficult to get all six cylinders on the court firing in unison - and IMO it’s Swindle, Wenaas and Barnes that are least consistent currently.
Jenna Wenaas can be so dynamic at times and in other instances completely lackluster, there’s not this elite level stability we’ve become spoiled with at the OH. Skinner and even the great Logan have had their off nights, but Wenaas seems more unstable up there.
And then there’s Swindle. There’s just a lot of potential there that’s not baked enough (yet); she’s not fast to the ball so when the passing breaks down everything falls apart dramatically. Her tempo and location are sporadic - sometimes good, often just okay, but Texas hitters with their big window range can better the ball. She’d benefit a lot from some lateral strength building and some visualization exercises. Taller setters have a special set of challenges than their lower center of gravity counterparts. What is thought to be gained in a block can be a statistical mirage in what is lost overall.
That was the worst set played since Jim Moore days.

I don't know what to tell you. We're arrogant. Texans are arrogant by nature and upbringing. And the University of Texas takes it up a different notch. The Aggies call us tea sippers for a reason. It's because we think we're better than everyone else. For me it's a feature. Not a bug. If people dislike us intensely because of our arrogance, all I can say is that's a pretty good reason. We do our best to earn it. But people are complicated. They can have aspects we like, and aspects we don't. But saying we shouldn't do the chant because other fans dislike it so much doesn't sound very compelling to me in the way you seem to think it should. If all Texans fans were like you six, then you can’t be too bad They are all "WOKE" just like you. |
