Also... dang Scanferla didn't make the cut? Ouch. That Piacenza was pretty lackluster. LET'S GO PORRO BROS!!! My initial reactions... No Scanferla...really? Opposite depth and consistency look sus. They'd better sacrifice a goat and pray for good Romanó. Frattelli Porro...LFG!

Like you said, they better hope for great Yuri all summer long or start getting Bottolo/Lavia reps at OPP. Maybe even Sani.

basil usually handles the VNL thread but I'm pretty sure they've been busy with life and making sure Karch doesn't f$%# up Hot Skinner Summer. I think we're all very confused about the Sani situation? It's been an on-going discussion throughout the season. He's of Italian descent but he played for the USA Junior NT. More than once! So... umm... IDK. Yea, I was just reading through all of that now. He played for the senior team, which makes it weirder... because it sounds like FIVB is recognizing that USA shouldn't have been his federation of origin (so by making it italy, he doesnt have to sit out)... But it looks like their argument might stem from here where he started to play in Trento. Maybe they don’t count playing for USA in Pan Ams against him lol

Is Argentina’s middle blocker Solé only playing Pro League? I don’t think I’ve seen him wear Argentina’s jersey since they won the bronze medal at Tokyo 2020(2021)… (not positive)?

He retired from the national team after Tokyo and changed his sports nationality (?) to Italy. So he doesn't count against foreigner limits if he's on the court in Superlega.

I see the coach’s son made the initial list again… Hope this will not become another situation of playing favorites (in my opinion) when it comes to the final Olympic roster for Paris. I remember Jan Martinez’s social media during the Tokyo games… the guy was crushed while cheering them on from home. That said, Martinez does have more competition now to make the roster than 2021. Also, bruinsgold, remember UCLA’s younger Quiroga brother?! I remember in 2014 thinking Gonzalo was a shoo-in for the future Olympic rosters back then.

But yay for Palacios being back! They certainly could've used him last year in some VNL and IOQT matches.

Martinez certainly has a LOT of competition but he was a clutch player for them during VNL whenever Vincente or Palonsky struggled. You're talking about Gonzalo, right?? Man, he was so good! I really thought he was going to be something great for the national team 😢

I continue to be surprised to see Conte on rosters because I feel like all of the talk since tokyo was whether he'd hang up the NT jersey.

Maybe they don’t count playing for USA in Pan Ams against him lol they should, its a senior event. it looks like its a case adjacent (But not completely similar) to Antropovas, where they wanted to change the federation of origin (which is not the same as naturalizing). Sani being summoned to the Italian national team surprised even me (for what it's worth). Just to clarify: 1 - The rule of having played in another country's senior national team applies to naturalizations after Jan. 1, 2024 2 - Sani had an Italian passport at least in 2023 3 - Antropova's case is very different: (a) Antropova did not have the possibility of dual citizenship by descent. (b) There was (and still is) a document from the Russian Volleyball Federation stating that Antropova was not registered in Russia, so it would not have been a change of Federation of Origin but to recognize that her First Federation of Origin was Italian (she has been playing in Italy since 2018) 4 - To apply for a change of Federation of Origin, one must first obtain citizenship. So to play as an Italian, Sani must have taken these 2 steps in 2023. 5 - In any case, I don't get the timing right: with the regulations in place in 2023 you need at least 2 continuous years before applying. Probably the whole thing was planned and implemented before Sani left for Italy (my guess).

(and thats what I meant in regards to similarity to Kate) He grew up in Italy for some period of time and thats when he started playing organized volleyball. Idk when he got citizenship or anything... but it would align with FIVB bypassing naturalization stuff.

Since he played for the US national team, he had to have US as both Federation of Origin and citizenship at that time. If he was registered in Italy then he would have already made a change of Federation of Origin and could not have made other changes.
