If Syracuse doesn’t make a change they might not have a team. There are proooobblems.

28 people? How does that even happen? Universities using athletics to drive enrollment. Pretty common at DIII. Not unheard of at DII. I would not be surprised to see it start to permeate the lower level of DI. Not if universities end up having to pay 15K per athlete per year....

Not if universities end up having to pay 15K per athlete per year.... Well, to be fair, they only have to pay that for 12 athletes, whether there are 12 or 28 on the roster. The rest of the operating expenses for that large of a roster would come from the team budget.

They call it a "scholarship."

Could explain the 9 kids in the portal... She was only there for 9 months? Digging more: They had 12 true freshmen on a 28-person roster. That means at least 16 players weren't on an athletic scholarship, so it's not that surprising to see 9 players in the portal. Maybe the coach did something wrong, but if the administration is requiring a gigantic roster size, that job doesn't sound like much fun. Also, it's 11 players in the portal since September. Coaching staff was not ready for a D1 level. To be honest, they are middle of the pack junior college level coaching staff. There is(was) talent this past season, but she just couldn’t put the right group together on the court and players were all revolting when they could see the experience was no where near what they were told would be the case. The AD needed to make a change immediately to save the program from even further decline.

A couple of good HC jobs opening soon…. What is your definition of "good"? Power 5 conference? Just below (like Big East, Big West, AAC, WCC)?

Recruiting, in-game decision making, game preparation, practice preparation, relationship building with external (and internal) stakeholders. Her inability to do the 2nd thing was very obvious.

It's not clear she was ever in an NCAA gym at any point in her life, let alone a DI gym.

In general terms, what exactly does not ready for D1 mean for a coach? It's not clear she was ever in an NCAA gym at any point in her life, let alone a DI gym. This could be said about Louisiana’s coach as well. And she seems to be doing good things. There are absolutely people out there with the personality and general competency to succeed even if they have a lot less experience. But pretty clearly, that was not the case here. Because on the other side of that coin, I can think of quite a few coaches that have a ton of experience in D1 gyms that would be a trainwreck if they got a head coaching job.

We have had too many examples of this to count.
