lol...I stay off here for the most part...but middle of the pack JC Coaches...lol...I'm sorry, is it a diffrent game at the D1 level? Or maybe is it the athletes...if your going to run down an entire level of collegiate vball what a wonderful way to go...a professional is a professional no matter the level...what your talking about is coaches...at all levels...who are not prepared to be head coaches...period, regardless of the level...know many coaches at different levels who would do great things if given the opportunity ....sorry if I take offense, but lots of GREAT coaches at many levels. Your Period key sure is offended... take it easy on the thing

So which side is the status quo and which is the exception? Thats the problem with doing the: Yes, but.... argument. Not sure. I think hiring is more of a crapshoot than people think. Great ADs might make great hires 75% of the time and lousy ADs will get it right 25%. But it's far from an exact science. Especially if you're in the bottom 10% of pay in all of D1. The experienced candidates will often have a reason they'd be willing to take a low-paying job. So you're trying to strike gold with somebody without experience. I was refering to the probability of the inexperienced coach not doing well when they get in the big job versus the experienced coaches ending up doing well? The general belief is that experience is important, but by pointing out the counterexample you seem to thing that the common assumption is wrong. Where are statistics on that?

I hope Savannah and Crissy get the shot to stay, they did a heck of a job with some tough circumstances

I hope Savannah and Crissy get the shot to stay, they did a heck of a job with some tough circumstances Taking a step back from head coach down to assistant coach can be a tough thing to do. I absolutely agree with the sentiment, but it could be tricky, especially for Crissy.

I hope Savannah and Crissy get the shot to stay, they did a heck of a job with some tough circumstances They did yeoman's work bailing Cal out of a really bad situation. I would think that it is up to them whether they stayed or not. But having that body of work, I am pretty sure any program would love to have them, as either assistants or head coaches. It all depends on the level of the team.

For the good of Cal, shouldn't we hope Malcom gets to hire a staff of her own, to compliment her strengths and meet her needs, rather than being asked to retain a staff that was assembled to meet Sam Croson's needs and compliment his strengths? I don't know Jen well and don't know Croson at all but they seem like different people to me.

And it stinks, because by all accounts Crissy and Sav did a great job in a tough situation. But ultimately Jen has to do what's best to optimize her staff.

Two posts later we celebrate a great job from an inexperienced Head Coach. Good to see people can beat the odds.

So there was going to be an investigation, but instead when they heard the word “lawsuit” they fired without an investigation? Am I reading that correctly? And Joe Allison is presumably the father of sophomore Ryann Allison who played in one match opening weekend. So if you take this job, make sure she starts if you want to stick around.
