He went from Syracuse to Barry University. All due respect to Barry, that would be an interesting choice to make on your own. Also the shambles he left the program in definitely showed no love. Actually, Barry is kind of retirement for Leonid. He’s always wanted to go back to Florida. He owns a condo in Miami, his daughter and grandkid live in Miami area. Close to family while picking up an extra paycheck from Barry. Not a bad gig if you ask me. Fair point, but considering how long he was there, I can’t understand why he didn’t or couldn’t do more to build the program and facilities and why he encouraged all of the girls to leave. He clearly didn’t have a lot of faith in the program or AD. Everything about them is light years behind any other P5 program I’ve seen. It’s no longer in his hands and now it’s over the cliff.

They fired the old head coach in 2021. They didn’t have Bake in place until August of 2022. The former coach told everyone to leave so he had to scramble to put a team together but they didn’t want to pay for a great coach on the way up. Syracuse got a coach that was fired from his previous job and desperate. He just isn’t great. He fired the two assistant coaches that he brought with him the first year. He then didn’t recruit much between seasons so they started with only about 12 players. The facilities are trash. The gym floor is awful and the work out facilities that VB uses are awful. They ended up with at least 4-5 injuries immediately . He made some very interesting choices with the players he did have. Bottom line… Syracuse won’t invest in the program and the coach they got to take the job might be a good guy but he’s not a good coach. Also, who wants to walk on and pay $80k to be a part of the program? Woah, throwing little shade on the ole Uzbek here. I didn’t think Leonid was fired, especially after leading Syracuse to their first and only NCAA tournament You know in those pirate movies where they walk the plank into shark infested water with a sword at their back? The pirate didn't exactly kill him, but you wouldn't say the guy chose to go for a swim either... fired/quit/retired/separated sometimes they are just words. Also, the villain in the story was an assistant AD who botched the new hire. It sounds more like his arrogance and incompetence that led to the problems of 2022, than anything Wildhack, the AD, actually did. If Wildhack is blamed for anything it's having priorities other than volleyball. WVB is the 2nd or 3rd sport at some schools but at Syracuse volleyball falls behind football, both basketballs, both lacrosse teams, and of course field hockey and men's soccer won national titles recently... and I would add women's ice hockey to the list though that may be debatable. And when you realize WVB is like the 10th most important program you understand why the program lacks the time, attention, facilities, or budget necessary to succeed.

lol...I stay off here for the most part...but middle of the pack JC Coaches...lol...I'm sorry, is it a diffrent game at the D1 level? Or maybe is it the athletes...if your going to run down an entire level of collegiate vball what a wonderful way to go...a professional is a professional no matter the level...what your talking about is coaches...at all levels...who are not prepared to be head coaches...period, regardless of the level...know many coaches at different levels who would do great things if given the opportunity ....sorry if I take offense, but lots of GREAT coaches at many levels. oh look a wild Jim Dietz!

Too much hate for coach Bake. Let's see if he can get some international talent at Cuse like he did at Temple. It's high risk, but, it's for sure the best shot.

This^^^^ I can’t imagine what was going through their minds during the hiring process, but unless an AD is living under a rock, they should see the potential in in volleyball right now. We know it comes down to money and volleyball can be an income producing sport before lacrosse and field hockey. Ask John Cook

Too much hate unless….you’re someone who wanted to see them be successful ,you’re one of the coaches who tried to work with him, players who tried to play with him or even athletic trainers who tried to help the team. 😣 Then… it’s not too much hate.

Syracuse was good under Leonid because he is one of the best head coaches of the last 30 years and also has probably the best international recruiting connections of anyone out there. Facilities suck, campus is meh, the weather is awful, and the ACC is a lot tougher now than it was 10 years ago when he took over.
It's a brutally tough job and administration clearly doesn't care very much so I doubt facilities and resources are going to improve very much. It took an excellent head coach crewing multiple all Americans (including arguably the best player in the ACC) just to get them to the tournament.

I never say things like this usually but maybe Syracuse should just cut the volleyball program.

My guess is that they can't - what men's sport would they cut to balance it out? They wouldn't need to cut a men's sport, they could just add another female sport that might be cheaper than vball They're already considerably out of Title IX compliance. Cutting a sport is asking for a Title IX investigation and they'd be required to add over 100 female athletes. Not gonna happen.
