Thanks so much for the time stamps! But WTF was with the background music? That's just weird. Maybe I don't know much about people's TV watching habits but the idea that the PVF will gain new fans from people "channel surfing" seems totally out of touch today. Personally I don't have any channels to surf, and I suspect I'm not alone, so I don't know if that's how new fans will be created. LOVB is definitely a different model, but PVF it seems needs to be more pro-active in attracting overseas players. I know I'm spoiled from having just watched the Scudetto final but the level of the PVF still has some ways to go, and I do worry that the players that LOVB is signing will provide much higher quality games.

Thank you for the post and the time stamps... I am not sure that the interview inspired a great deal of confidence in the PVF.... I am supportive of the league and thought the product has been compelling this year... I think that LOVB's model has the ability to be more successful... If I were betting today, I would guess that the successful PVF teams will end up becoming part of the merged leagues and those who are not successful will cease to exist.. Happy to be wrong and look forward to seeing what happens next year...

I'm not going to lie. The ESPN deal is another blow to sports in my city. Even if the PVF is swallowed by LOVB, I don't see them coming here.
I'm pretty sure LOVB is locked out of the club scene here, so the needed affiliation means the Rise would just shutter.
Just like the Rampage did.
A media market bigger than Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Buffalo, Dayton, and Omaha and we have 0 major league presence. Even though we made the playoffs, between losing our two biggest stars and LOVB becoming the more visible pro-volleyball product, I'm pretty depressed right now.

just listening to parts of the Apr. 28 interview. couple of interesting points: 1) she said the CBS deal is important b/c she thinks "channel surfers" will come across a game, see how exciting it is, and stay watching. - I used to be a channel surfer, but no longer am, for at least the last 10 years. There are so many channels on my cable deal... at least 120 incl. sports pak, that it makes no sense to surf. I will look at the menu every once in a while, but generally I have 8-10 channels I surf... major networks, ESPN, ESPN2, History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc. and then a quick look at about the first 50 channels in my menu. If something is past the first 50, I never even get there to see it is available. What I DO surf is Youtube. And the Youtube algorithm feed always shows me PVF games both scheduled and live b/c it sees I've watched them before. - the demographic that will grow the sport, 20-40 year olds, increasingly as each year passes, doesn't have cable anymore. No 30 something person I know has actual cable. Basic cable is $130 per month where I am without any extra cost sports or other "paks" in which one might find CBS Sports Network. People can't afford that. So how are you going to reach your target market who "surf" cable, when increasingly your target market doesn't even use cable, and if they do they probably don't have CBS Sports Network? ??
2) Our sport is special and has a great future because the women's game is arguably more entertaining to watch than the men's game (assuming a comparison to basketball, or softball v. baseball). - Problem is we don't HAVE a pro men's volleyball league, so that statement actually draws attention to the fact that the sport in both genders as a Pro sport has never made it in the USA. And that there is no men's game for viewers who would cross over into the women's game.
Well, that's all. I think she is stuck in the world she grew up in, the world of cable, that hardly exists any more. So I hope she has 30 somethings and 20 somethings in her circle to let her know that cable isn't what she thinks it is.

OK, I watch matches but often don't listen to commentary... sound off. What is she doing?
How does her hitting efficiency % compare to other starting OH in the league?

.212? I had noticed casually that there are other OH around the league that seem to be more terminal, so, OK. She passes well at least. I think Sponcil could hit .200 and add to the team's defense and passing. But seriously, how is a team with an OH who is second in the league in kills but not that efficient supposed to win more than it loses?

You made me curious about stats, so I started looking at each team for Team stats.
Aside from hitting %, where GR is upside down vs. its opponents, a couple of Team stats stood out to me.
GR is tied for last in the league in blocks/set.
GR is tied for 5th in the league in aces/set.
The issue I see there is if a team is having connection issues, or for other reasons is having a tough night siding out, they don't have aces and blocks as a way to generate points and turn things around while waiting for hitting to get back in sync.

At this point what matters most is her hitting % vs. the semifinal opponent in the Finals.. which is Atlanta, right? 1v4? Her hitting % v. ATL is .155. Below her all-opponent %. of .212
Against ATL Dimitrova hit .248. which is above her season % v. all opponents of .241
Not sure what to make of that given that the OH gets a lot more OOS sets than the OPP... still, maybe a shift to OOS sets to the OPP would be in order. As well as shift some in-system attack emphasis to OPP and MB.
