Much cleaner effort. Better serve/pass led to better blocking. Big match offensively for Hakas on the left side. Also, in a tweak, in a couple obvious situations, she moved over and was part of a triple block against a left side in obvious situations. UCSB bedeviled Hawai'i with that, and it looks like RAM made an adjustment based on that.

She's touching almost everything being hit at her, just not getting enough of them up. She's close though! You're right she is close 😂 small kine slow lol

Hakas like 80% of the time moves over to triple block think she’s the only one of our players that does that consistently

I thought OH1 is right next to the setter and takes two rotations up front with only two attackers. That also means the other pin is passing in the back row during those two rotations. Oh no you’re right, I just wasn’t sure what the specific issue you had was. It does help that the OH1 is also easier to hide in Receive since we have an opposite who can pass That’s why I couldn’t fault Riley for her recent weak performances. She’s the best passing pin and the weakest hitting pin. Why was Robyn playing her at OH1?

The occasional triple block did seem like it threw UCI pins off balance at times.
I really miss Caylen out there offensively--but I totally get that if you're gonna have Riley in there in 3 rotations only, then you have to balance that out with other passers/floor defenders.
It seemed to work tonight, pins having lots of single coverage and doing their job and putting it down.

Hawaii hit .363 to Irvine's .116 and had 42 kills to Irvine's 28.
The 3 unforced hitting errors was a pleasant surprise as was the 10 blocks to Irvine's 6.
Paula - 12 kills .545 Tali -11 kills .348 Kendra - 7 kills .250 with 2 aces
Amber had 8 blocks to go along with her 6 kills and 2 aces.
Kate had 39 assists to go along with her team high 8 digs. Tali and Wags chipped in 7 and 6 digs respectively.
Hawaii fielded a more defensive/passing minded lineup and it payed off in this match as the Wahine were never in much trouble all night. It will be interesting to see if the remaining opponents test out Tali's serve receive more.
The beefed up passing and ball control not only allowed Kate to set with more ease, but also set a quicker tempo offense especially to the pins.
Also, I think that Tali's defense and tip coverage is superior to any of her teammates (Kate would be the closest) as she was reading very well this evening.

I don’t remember Riley being lined up on the Rightside in rotation 1, maybe I haven’t been paying as much attention 🤔

Great game by the Bows!
lol trying to watch the Beach vs UCSB game and it feels like it’s in slow motion compared to the UH vs UCI game, idk if it’s the announcers or what but I immediately started falling asleep.
Female commentator sounds like someone set her to x.75 😴

Hakas is a natural left side hitter.
So is Paula.
Tbh we have no true opposite. I think Alexander is the closest but even she’s not there yet.
It was an overall solid match for the girls. We’ll see how this lineup does going forward
