Smith, the first player to win 100 open beach volleyball tournaments, has been suspended since May 31 and may not participate or attend USA Volleyball sanctioned events, according to USA Volleyball’s suspended list. The reason for the suspension is listed by USA Volleyball as “U.S. Center for SafeSport administrative hold.”

“I’m not sure why you are hell bent on trying to mess with me?” Smith said in a text Thursday in response to a question about when he was last a member of USA Volleyball. “I think it is time to stop trying to find a way to tarnish my career. You must have better things to do?”
Is there some history between Sinjin and Scott Reid of the OC Register?

If this is a suspension from May, why is it being reported on now?

This does not sound good. Anyone have knowledge of what this is?

Scott Reid does this a lot. Every so often he will go through Safesport and then write articles about what he finds. The timing of it is odd because he usually does this around big events or championships.

VolleyTalk must really be going downhill if nobody here posted about this. I do find it hard to believe that Sinjin really has no idea what this is about and only learned of it when Reid asked for comment several months later.

He also wrote articles about Wade and Touzinsky. The AVCA refrained from giving out the COY award because of his article until Wade was cleared.

He’s been on the Safesport list for months. I saw it over the summer… can’t believe nobody else saw it.

Two questions: 1. What is an admin hold and does anyone know what Sinjin did or was accused of? 2. How does Taylor avoid having the word "minor" anywhere in the description of what he did?

Not sure he’s handling this correctly by claiming he has no idea what this is about and accusing a reporter of trying to tarnish his career. If there’s an innocent explanation, just say what it is. Otherwise he’s probably better off just refusing to comment. That’s one thing Taylor Crabb got right.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but maybe he doesn't care to say anything about it because it's minor and that's why he's accusing this reporter of tarnishing his career. Again, I have no intimate knowledge of what's going on but it's a possibility.

This is what I'm going to assume until I hear otherwise.

I'm praying Sinjin's suspension isn't for somethin awful, but someone needs to be pushing this stuff into the public eye.

Typically safesport/USAV will put an administrative hold on you for something as simple as not completing your safesport training, or if you are the listed director or operator and one of your employees or people under you commit a safesport/USAV violation your status also becomes in question if you were found to be negligent or intentionally deceitful or something along those lines. It could also be as simple as someone listed his name on a roster, or just uploaded an outdated coaches roster where he was listed and it is showing him non complient. I am going to hope it is just something as simple as him not completing the module, but could also be something he had no control over. As far as the Taylor thing, people have been asking about that for a while. The initial story that came out was he was just extremely drunk at a PVL playdate and that is why it came up alcohol offense - which is just crazy because those events were basically BYOB open gyms and everyone knew. Just crazy how the coverup went knowing what we all know now with how many stories line up.
