Take CFB’s overtime changes from a couple years ago (going for 2’s only after the 3rd OT), and apply it to extras beyond a certain point. If you’re tied at 30-30, the next point wins it. No more winning by 2. That should shorten the matches a bit, if it ever gets to that point. However, I’m not sure I’d apply that idea to the 5th set though.

Replacing one of the best rules in volleyball, one which creates enormous drama every time it comes into play, with one of the worst new rules in American sports is a bad idea, I think.

How often do sets end up tied at 30-30? I’d guess very few, so it wouldn’t come up very often. I don’t know, I think there would still be plenty of drama leading up to that point, and the drama tied at 30-30 would seem pretty ridiculous to me, as you KNOW that this next point is the winner. Could you imagine baseball requiring a team to win by 2? Games going into extra innings from 2022 might still be waiting to end if that was the case.

Something I've wanted to see for years to make the first rounds more interesting/competitive is to give the top seeds at least 1st round byes, and maybe 2nd round as well. We know a lot of the AQs aren't going to be competitive with even the at-large teams. Let the lower ranked schools playoff against each other to start in what would be more engaging matches for everyone involved.

I don’t know how to make it work logistically, but for the top teams there’s practically an infinitesimal chance of an upset. At least some kind of play in going to the 2nd round. It would give those teams an opportunity to claim an NCAA tournament victory, which would be good all around.

Did I click on the thread about how to make TV executives more comfortable in slotting volleyball games into television slots? Because I thought this was the thread on how to grow the game? Although there is some kind of correlation between the two. But aside from making it more of a sure thing television can move on to its next set of programming, this sounds like a terrible idea. Why are we bringing up baseball as an example? A point is scored in volleyball every 30 seconds to maybe a minute in a half with longer rallies. Challenge reviews can admittedly extend that by a couple of days or so, but to me that’s a separate issue. As you say, 30-30 scores are not common. So why are we making special rules to accommodate those situations? Is that what is going to grow the game? I don’t understand your thinking on this one.
