I have said in the past that I have no issues with constructive criticism of our players’ match performances. But, Wenaas continues to take the brunt of it from a few posters. It’s as if she is the only one who makes mistakes while everyone else plays flawless volleyball. It does make me laugh that it’s all about front row attacking for some posters. For years Texas and Coach Elliott were criticized endlessly on this forum for signing super athletic pin hitters who could terminate but lacked sufficient ball control skills to help with serve receive. I do think Jenna is one of the better all-around pin hitters we’ve had at Texas and based on her playing time, our coaching staff agrees. Lauenstein will have to outplay-practice Wenaas in areas other than just front row attacking to unseat her. while i agree with your sentiment of being too critical of jenna, i cant say i agree with you saying she’s “one of the better all-around pin hitters we’ve had at Texas” when her passing was mediocre at best last year and she wasn’t a 6ro OH.

Not sure if it’s news here but congrats to the horns on Eggleston and Fleck making the NORCECA roster! It’s so nice to see Eggleston finally get a chance to represent the USA

By “all-around” I meant her overall skill set; not that she played all 6 rotations. Skinner wasn’t a 6-rotation OH at Texas her first season either. Jenna wasn’t better than a 5th year defensive “specialist” in Carissa Barnes: no shame in that. It’s not like anyone expected Barnes not to play.

First observation watching yesterday. This team is deeper than last year at the pins and setter. Devin was the first pin in at OH and RS. We have two options at RS with Devin Reagan and Whitney looked like a legit option at OH with Helmers and Byrd following.
Hopefully Nya can get healthy.

A note: Eggleston represented USA twice last summer and on all 4 youth and junior teams she was eligible for. usavolleyball.org/athlete/logan-eggleston/

Whether she redshirt last year or the intent is to request a medical waiver for last year and redshirt this year isn't known outside the program, but playing in an exhibition game does not impact a player's ability to redshirt or get a medical waiver.

She did and I thought she looked pretty good especially since I have not seen her play in a match in 2 years. Have no idea about redshirting but I seriously doubt that after yesterday.

It will be just a regular redshirt year. It's also not a medical waiver last year, but an extension of her eligibility "clock" from 5 to 6 years for her pregnancy.

Have no idea about redshirting but I seriously doubt that after yesterday. I doubt yesterday made any difference about whether she will attempt to redshirt or not. She has been practicing so the coaching staff is already aware of her capabilities.
