I have four tickets for Monday Sept 2nd at Fiserve Forum available (but none for Sunday).
Pretty good seats, Section 105, row 9. Courtside, but beyond the endline.
My cost was $56 per ticket. If you go to Ticketmaster, I don't think you'll find anything as good for that, once you figure in the insane TicketMaster fees.
If you're interested, let me know through direct messages.

So, even though Jenna did not play back row (most of) this season, I saw her receiving serve quite a bit. Hypothetically, if Byrd were to earn the starting OH spot over Jenna, how does that affect serve receive? Don't want to slight Byrd, but I can't imagine she has the same level of ball control. She'd have to be "hidden" when receiving serve? there’s a long winded answer, but the short answer is: would you rather have Byrd hitting for Wenaas and lose Skinner’s bic or would you rather have Wenaas hitting and keep Skinner’s bic? I know you mostly gave up on Jenna during the first set against UTSA a couple of weeks ago. If Jenna isn't on the court, how do you revise our lineup to ensure we don't lose Skinner's bic ?

Well we have Akana and Halter both backrow passing next to Wenaas/Byrd, and they will squeeze the front row OH as much as they can and poach balls from them while also preserving Madi’s bic on the first ball. We were doing this as much as possible with both Wenaas and Madi last season
If we get into passing trouble then we can pull Madi in or also maybe pass with 4 to throw different looks, like we did in the tournament
In this hypothetical scenario

I think Whitney could have similar passing numbers. I’d be more concerned about defense I think but that has nothing to do with the front row rotations. but Whitney is for sure the better server, and likely the better attacker and blocker. defense goes to Wenaas but I think passing could easily go either way.

While I'd like her passing to have been better, it was never going to be better than the players you listed. You were the one lobbying for Wenaas on December 24 with multiple posts discussing the value in having her on the court (over players like Byrd) in order to ensure Skinner's bic was an option. You were pretty specific with your reasons which made perfect sense. After one set in a scrimmage 8 months later, you did a complete 180 and it had nothing to do with her passing. If Lauenstein is the better option based on what the coaches want on offense/defense, then she'll find her way onto the court.

They could lose in every sport but win in football and none of it will matter. After all these years I’ve never stopped and wondered until today…Do Texas A&M and UT consider each other as their biggest in-state rivals for volleyball? I would have guessed Baylor for UT and not A&M. Or is this more of a football thing? TLDR, A&M's biggest rival in everything is Texas. For Volleyball, A&M has been pretty irrelevant to Texas. Since A&M left the big 12 twelve years ago, Texas is 7-0 against A&M over the last 12 years, only dropping 4 sets along the way. A&M has only finished the season ranked twice in that time (and only 3 times since 2004) while Texas has only finished outside the Top 5 once (8th in 2019). The teams are on completely different tiers of the sport, have hardly played, and don't recruit the same players. The only rivalry that exists here is that which already permeates the two brands naturally carrying over from other sports. As for other in-state schools, practically, Houston and Rice each have as many ranked finishes in the last 5 than A&M does in the last 20. Baylor has finished ranked each of the last 7 seasons, including two Top 10s. Baylor has recruited some Texas-level players, like Averi Carlson. Baylor's beat Texas twice in the last 5 seasons, and split the 2019 conference championship. Baylor is the only in-state school that has been even remotely competitive with Texas. Baylor is Texas' only "Volleyball Rival" within the state.

I was assuming you thought she was a great passer since you said she’s one of the best all around pins Texas has had even though her hitting percentage and passing stats are far lower than… well everyone but Skylar Fields (whose hitting was way better but the passing was worse). I do think Wenaas provides more value than Byrd at this point. I didn’t realize Whitney would even be available this season, much less be able to hold up in ANY serve receive. so the 180 is me wanting someone who I believe can be a similar passer but better offensive option and won’t two hand tip any set that isn’t perfect. I just didn’t even know she was an option this season. let me be very clear though that I do think wenaas is a better option than Byrd for what we’re doing. I think Jenna and Devin are a bit interchangeable, with the rest of the outsides a step behind. and Jenna’s experience outweighs Devin. I don’t think we’re handicapped with Jenna per se, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect more out of her. she was far worse last season than really any season she had with Minnesota. if Whitney is ready to contribute at a level higher than Jenna, I don’t see how you can keep her off the court.

Forgive my ignorance but could someone explain to me the difference between passing and defense? I've always thought it was one and the same.

IIRC, the 180 you did was in the second set of the exhibition match against UTSA and well before Lauenstein had stepped onto the court as a Longhorn in the third set. At this point, I don't think we have a large enough sample size to know how Lauenstein would do in Jenna's exact role, especially in the passing department. During the second set, your posts were: - "I’m so over Jenna and it’s exhibition #1" - "like can we please try Devin or Whitney over there I’m begging"After Lauenstein had started to play in the third set, your posts were: - "I’ve seen all I’ve needed to see. welcome Whitney to the starting outside spot opposite Madi!" - "I’m over it. Whitney is better offensively, blocking, and serving. and Jenna’s passing has been awful since arriving in Austin so not like we’re losing much there. I actually think having Whitney in reception and then pushing her out as the server serves might be wayyyy better than keeping Jenna in there"So, compared to your posts in December, I do think what you posted last Saturday after 2 sets was like night and day. If after seeing Lauenstein in one set against UTSA you believe she is the better option, that's your prerogative. I'm hoping to see for myself if that's the case for tomorrow in the team scrimmage. I do think Wenaas is one of the best "all around" (skill-wise not necessarily "6 rotation") pin hitters Texas has had. When you combine her blocking and ability to receive serve, that separates her from several before her who were liabilities in those areas. Yes, her attacking is her weakest area; and, because Texas has had some phenomenal attackers in the past (who couldn't help in serve-receive), it's almost like comparing apples to oranges.

Forgive my ignorance but could someone explain to me the difference between passing and defense? I've always thought it was one and the same. I think of defense as anything that counteracts offense. So, digging balls after they’ve been spiked is one way to think of it (blocking too). Passing is synonymous with serve receive.

Madi, Logan, PPC, Neal, White, Eckerman, etc (hell even Lexi Sun) would love to chat. all better attackers with better passing numbers, better serves, etc.

Anyone want to make a (more educated than my) guess as to who will be starting (plus back-row subs if possible)? Otherwise the lineup in my match thread will read something like "take your pick!"

The biggest question to me is the OH opposite Skinner, and if that player will have a DS. Perhaps the O/W scrimmage tomorrow will clear more up? I think the safest lineup atm is Skinner/Wenaas Ames/Singletary Swindle/Rutherford (Akana) Halter

The "debate" isn't about Wenaas being one of our best over pins; pretty sure you know that. The point I'm trying to make is how quickly you turned and not sure what exactly it is based on. Your (emotional) quotes are there for all to see. For someone who has worked within a collegiate volleyball program, you being so quick to anoint Lauenstein a starter after just 1 set in an exhibition match is what's very surprising to me. I don't think you're being objective and are focusing on an extremely small sample size. Perhaps you have access to Whitney's passing numbers her 2 seasons at Nebraska and you see that they are better than Jenna's from 4 seasons, or not. I recall several posters singing Jenna's praises after one scrimmage at Texas in 2023; most not recognizing that she was hitting across the net from a 5'10 setter most of the time. A very small sample size didn't deter the excitement.

IMO the only real question is who plays the second OH position. Given JE's tendencies and the fact that Lauenstein is coming back from injury, my guess is Wenaas gets the start against Wisconsin, but with Lauenstein as a ready sub. I think Ella/Rutherford will start at S/OPP, and Carlson/Devin coming in as dub sub
