Her, Bryd, Helmers, or all three... Unfortunately that entire class got the short end of the stick, between injuries, COVID super-seniors and the incoming pipeline. It's possible we might lose all of them to the Portal over the next couple of years: Bunton Helmers Byrd Tomkinson Bunton isn’t getting her just due,I definitely believe she leaves.

For sure, Ames decommitting from Nebraska and switching to Texas was not expected.. Even with that I don’t think Ames is necessarily better. She has just been given the opportunity. Ames has shown to be better. She is very confident and aggressive for a true freshman. When Bunton has played, she hasn't shown that confidence; I bet our coaching staff has noticed the same in practice and that is what differentiates the two at this time.

Would like to see one of two things next year: 5-1 L1: Lauenstein (DS Choboy😜) L2: Spears/AVW/Byrd (DS Krueger) M1: Ames M2: Singletary Opp: Kahahawai S: Swindle/Carlson L: Halter Halter, Kahahawai, and one of the DSes are the primary passers 6-2 L1: Lauenstein L2: Spears/Byrd M1: Ames M2: Singletary O1: Kahahawai O2: AVW (DS Krueger) S1: Swindle S2: Carlson L: Halter Libero goes in for outsides (Halter serves for Spears/Byrd), setters for middles, and Opps are 6 rotation like we did in 2013 with Neal and Victoria for a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if Choboy decides to leave Nebraska, only because they'll have Mauch and then Lembach coming in, who's also apparently a stud. Not sure about that. The Libero spot opens up at Nebraska after Rodriguez plays her last match at Nebraska in December. Choboy wouldn't beat out Halter for the Libero spot at Texas in 2025. So, I see Choboy staying at NU at least one more season and competing to succeed Rodriguez.

Watching Helmers in August in the Orange/White scrimmage, she seemed rather solid and relaxed in serve receive; believe she only played back row after subbing in for Byrd and/or Lauenstein. I hope Helmers will stay another season as she could be one of our better pin hitter passers next season.
