learned something today. flight from dallas to austin was delayed because the plane broke. rude. they shunt us to a new gate, get a new plane and load us up
we sit on the tarmac forever until the pilot gets on the intercom and said there has been a report of a single dead bird on the runway and they have to investigate before we get cleared
so a plane loaded with fuel, passengers, crew and luggage is no match for a single dead birdo.

I still need to watch a replay of the match, but in watching it unfold last night, it sure seemed like Minnesota's block touches were a big factor. Are there stats for that? I seem to recall Minnesota getting a lot of black touches the last several years, regardless of who was the head coach. Is that because of Shaffmaster being lined up some against our left side hitters who were getting more sets than other positions? Seems like we still can't figure out how to contain Julia Hanson; not sure she plays that well against other opponents, but she does against us. Way too many tip shots by Minnesota that fell successfully on our side of the court. Are there stats for that? In looking at the stats, Texas had 20 block assists, and zero solo blocks. Minnesota had 24 block assists, and 2 solo blocks. That's not as lopsided as I thought while watching the match. texaslonghorns.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2024/-18-minnesota/boxscore/16281

The Widdlefamily was evidently on television during the game. This must be due to our extreme levels of attractiveness and charisma

I find myself laughing at all the posters insisting Jerritt needs to decide on a starting setter to play this instant and every point going forward -- even though we've played only 2 matches.
Same posters would be bitching the loudest for the backup setter to be given a chance if Jerritt had played only one setter the entire first 2 matches whether they were struggling at times or not. You can't have it both ways.
I for one want to watch both setters battle it out in actual matches (as I don't care who's playing better in the practice gym as we don't get to see that). If it was any other positions, posters would be clamoring for the backup to come in (like Whitney when Wenaas is struggling, or Bunton when one of the middles is struggling, etc.). Would I like to understand the decisions regarding the timing of why one setter comes in for the other? Sure. I don't see a clear-cut starting setter choice from the posters being the loudest on here as to who has won the battle after 2 matches. Is it still a close race? Has one setter separated themselves significantly from the other?
I will say this -- I never believed Swindle or Carlson would sit on the bench the majority of the season (assuming both were healthy). So far, that's an accurate prediction. How will the coaching staff find a way to best utilize each setter's skill set? Not sure. Perhaps they aren't either and that is why they are giving both setters the opportunity to prove themselves in actual matches hoping that one of them will clearly separate themselves and win the job on the court.

Simply just got out played for the most part. I think the setting position needs to be figured out real quick. Constantly switching back and forth doesn’t really help the team in any way. I also think that Jenna needs to be more terminal…..I know she gets her kills, but I feel like more often than not opponents are getting touches on her swings and that usually doesn’t end up in our favor. Easy fix, huh? What's your solution to make that happen?

I think that helps our hosting regionals chances for sure. Gotta hold it down the rest of the season though

Suddenly a loss to #18 doesn't look so bad for the horns lol

It helps any team hoping to be a Top 4 national seed; I'll take a Nebraska loss regardless. As for SMU, unless Baylor or Arkansas end up hosting a sub-regional as a Top 16 seed, then SMU being sent to the Austin sub-regional again seems likely assuming we finish Top 16 and they don't.

I don't think the MN loss rests with the players. I think it's on the coaches. MN had a game plan to win. (e.g.,they knew exactly where to set their blocks, and where to position the back row for anything that got through). They'd done their homework and executed a plan.
I couldn't discern what our plan was other than experimentation. No way our players could get any kind of flow with all the shuffling of personnel in and out.
I get it we need to see who performs best at game time but you have to give a lineup more time to gel. Beat MN for RPI and do more experimentation with IN.

Coaches wanted our players to serve tough, but they didn't overall. Players didn't bring the energy and composure to start the fifth set. Coaching staff had their own shortcomings as you mentioned.

They probably had to notify his next of kin before moving him. FAA regulations.
