I’d like to see Orr at setter for a game. Florida should have taught everyone that having the back-up setter play is one point away. I’d like to see Orr be the setter not to see if she is better than Reilly-she’s not-but to have her comfortable if she is needed. I hope we see 13 play on Friday. I don’t see the worth of extended play for any of the starters against LIU. Take a look at their tapes-this is the least capable team Nebraska has ever played at the Devaney.

LIU record: 13-18. RPI 279. What, they couldn't find a school of paraplegic blind girls to play against the mighty Women of the Corn? In extremely bad taste. Perhaps you would prefer a tournament of 32 or 16 teams without all the automatic berths from the non-P5 conferences? He's just mad because they have to leave the island to play other teams. |

Probably won't sit the starters the whole match, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of subs for sets 2 and 3. That was my thought, like the US did for one of the VNL matches that was easy / didn't matter. They put the first string in for the first set and a half, and then brought in all of the other folks to get them sometime on the floor as well. I don't know that I see Cook doing that, but it would be a great idea. I love Coach Cook, but his not letting the subs play in matches that are mismatches and are blowouts is my one criticism of him. When he does sub in, it is often a token chance to play as when they reach match point and the opposition is in single digits and it's non conference play. I know volleyball is a different animal than most sports where substitutions are unlimited and the contest is dictated by a clock and not by score, but in order to develop players and morale, letting everyone play whenever feasible is only fair. Those bench warmers put in the same work as the starters and deserve some time on the court. Personally, I would have started Kubik for the Iowa match so she could have had a moment of glory in her home state. And I would have thought about starting Orr as the setter in that match. In retrospect, Iowa was much more competitive than we expected and perhaps we would have struggled more without the starters and would have had to insert them into the match after Iowa established momentum. In any case, I hope I'm wrong and those subs see substantial time against Long Island so they can enjoy the spotlight for a while. |

I’d bet a lot of money you want see all of them in game 2. Yes, if the Huskers have a big lead late in the 2nd everyone plays. If they maintain the lead or extend it they finish the match. They might start trickling in earlier for starters with nagging injuries. LIU has the look of a team that is just happy to have made it to the tournament and play in front of a big crowd. |
