Minnesota is the type of team that is kryptonite to Utah State - tough serving and very physical at the net.
Teams in the Mountain West could slow down one of Capllonch, Stall, or Mehmedovic, but never two or all three of them. Minnesota has done a good job on Stall and Mehmedovic.

This win alone (assuming it happens) makes me satisfied with the season. I know, I know, they look great here and why not want more. I do want more and believe the Gophers have a real chance vs. Creighton. But, given where they once were this season, to make the tournament and win in the first round and get the opportunity to play the host seed, will leave me content - as long as their performance in the second match isn't dismal.

Landfair taking hard aggressive swings on high out of system balls and finishing off tough rallies is my Roman Empire. Such a positive development. Confidence can be so contagious, too. In either direction. Simply having this kind of success could truly transform this Minnesota team for the tournament. No doubt and it sort of felt like that was sparked by a 6-2 finish to the year capped off with a very competitive final couple sets against Nebraska. Birthed some newfound belief. |
