Sorry Houston, I'm not a believer. UCSB in the upset.(Ok mild upset, this is basically a coin flip game) The first time I remember Houston playing at Maples In the tournament, they had a first-year med student in their starting lineup… and one year, Houston was the only team to take a set off Stanford there.

Don’t like coaches that scream at their players I think it has its time and place. Who yelled though?

Don’t like coaches that scream at their players USC was so good when we did that and our players were mostly emotionless.

I think it has its time and place. Who yelled though? Lots of yelling on many plays, players know they screwed up, yelling won’t help. While I generally agree with you, I don't think it's black and white. Sometimes some yelling is needed and I have encountered many rougher players that won't really respect their coaches unless you show them your fangs sometimes. You can't hug everything out especially in competitive environments in sports.

Maybe because 7 players aren't allowed on the floor at one time..... Oh my. I meant a 5-1 lmao Some people have odd terms for offenses with two setters in the SAME rotation. We had a hurt setter (from serious knee pain) who was slow in the back row, so we let a player with speed set in the back row and the hurt setter in the front row, where hands and footwork (*) are more important than speed. (*) in Coach Dunning’s philosophy…. the player involved was never recruited by UOP. Sometimes specialists get hurt by a college coaching change while they are still in prep.

I never did see Coach Haley in the “hug it out” school of coaching. However, he is super bright and could have coached in the Ivy League (in the sense of wearing tweeds and holding his own with Kissinger in parlor conversation… as opposed to Kerr and Pop, who THINK they are that smart … Coach Haley really IS).

Anyone who is surprised by UCSB shanking a set away either hasn't been watching or isn't able to understand what they're seeing.
