The one benefit of the implosion of college sports is late BTN volleyball matches on Fridays, once I am home from my beer walk, and then the Illini are on FS1 later too, so a lot of flipping before the Hawai'i match at midnight!

So I've subscribed to B1G+ and ESPN, not inclined to pay for FS1 as well. It's a B1G match, will the replay be on B1G+ tomorrow?

Really need to win at least one of these games this weekend to help our resume. Let's go Illini!

Disappointed, but not surprised. I was hoping we could get a set off them, but it looked like a JV vs Varsity match. We can not maintain our intensity though one entire set let alone a game. We saw glimpses of it but we are just not consistent enough to maintain it. Hope Barnes can get back on the court and help out. In one of the latest interviews Terry mentions they are working on culture. Culture is EVERYTHING. You can have the best players in the world but if there is not good culture there is no success. This is a huge concern! Some observations I noted during this game.
While I like Mosher as a player I do not like her as our setter. I do not see her being able to put up a consistent tempo/location set for the hitters as evidence with all the tipping the hitters have been doing. When hitters can't trust their setter it is a challenge for hitters to get into rhythm. I do not think there is solid connection between Mosher and all the hitters. Maybe we try Reiley? I like her tempo, but I'm not sure if she is at that level to set in the B1G.
Mosher also needs to stick to a float serve. Sure, she may have had success this season with the jump but she was playing against easier teams. At this point when she gets back to serve I think it is almost an automatic point for the other team either she has a SE or the other team is able to get it up sideout. When a serve is that high error it does not help with the momentum and the Illini are already struggling keeping the intensity.
Tamas has progressively declined the overall success of this team. I would not be surprised if they consider terminating his contract after this season.
At least our football team and basketball teams are doing well! Go Illini

Go Illini Ill take a team full of studs versus CULTURE any day of the week. Culture hasn't helped is land any big time recruits or gotten us to the tourney the last few years. Star players have one thing in common, they want to win. ORE completely outplayed us and outclassed us in the match. They have better players plain and simple.

Well, Oregon came ready to dominate, hitting .315 while we barely scraped by at .099. They were dialed in, and we were so flat and looked lost out there.
By Set 3, our offense was in shambles—hitting .000. IMO Brooke and Averie struggled to find their rhythm, and Averie’s late points were like adding a cherry on a melted sundae—nice, but a bit late. Laynie is a freshman, so while her stats were in the negative, she gets grace for now. Our game plan was way too predictable—Oregon read us like a children’s book. Plus, our serving was practically gift-wrapped for them with 11 errors, and add to that, we got out-blocked 21 to 8. Raina was out there trying to save us, but she can’t do it alone and without a good number of attackers, we are dead in the water. I fear our coaches don’t know what to do at this point? Are they watching the same game as the rest of us? Lets see if we can keep up with Washington. Fingers crossed that we don’t end up dog food tomorrow night.

Go Illini You can also have the best culture in the world but without great players there is no success. I don't know if they will terminate coach's contract after this season but that is a fruitless exercise unless you replace him with someone better. Whitman did that after the horrible Fahey hire. He seems to have done it after the horrible Smith hire. Can he replicate that in volleyball?

Do we know what is wrong with Barnes? Must be pretty serious for her to not be on the bench w weekends in a row.

I'm fairly certain that the video broadcast team last night said she didn't travel because of illness. I took that to mean that it isn't an injury.
