To be honest this feels a little sad.. and no room for error below us. I watched UCLA and they look pretty good.. what is USC like?

We need win out with everyone below us and beat USC/UCLA to get tourney consideration. if we miss the tourney again this season - i have to assume that’s the end of our Tamas era? Sadly I am not sure Whitman will be willing to pay Tamas's buyout before the contract expires, especially with revenue sharing coming soon and Whitman saying he intends to use the maximum amount allowed for that.

Pretty sure that statement is not really a given - what you should really hope for is that all the teams you played in Pre-Season win the rest of their matches - yes winning matches in Big Ten helps but even if you beat Rutgers, Northwestern, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State your RPI is going to drop

At this point, going 10-10 in the B1G this year will be a pleasant surprise. Tamas’ 5 year contract goes to March, 2027, and given the financial upheaval in college athletic departments it is not likely he is going to be terminated before the end of his contract. Whitman “retired” Coach Fahey from women’s basketball mid-contract, but that was before athletic finances changed. As head coach Tamas bears responsibility for his assistants. Assistants don’t get 5 year contracts. The general consensus of the folks on this fthread is Tamas needs to hire an assistant who can coach passing and defense and hold the passing/defense coach responsible for results. Tomorrow would not be too soon.

I wouldn't go claiming there's a consensus on that. The people who like to post about calling for coaching changes make those posts but they don't necessarily speak for all of us. But I know how loud and convincing that echo chamber can be.

Our passing and defense took a turn for the worse when Alfee left. It has only improved this year because of the addition of Averie/CMM but thats due to their skill, not the coaching. When players brought is specifically to play DS cant see the court, cant pass or dig at a BIG level, its a coaching issue. Sharpling holds a lot blame but so does the rest of the staff for brining in recruits. Some things need to change or we are going to be a mid team for many years to come.

It's obviously fine to have opinions, I'm just saying it's a reach to claim any kind of Illinois VT consensus on anything. Not all of us are engaging with pet topics but silence doesn't imply agreement/disagreement. That's all I'm driving at.

I think everyone on the IL VT thread would agree that our passing a defense is far behind the rest of the teams in the BIG.

Depressing how quickly fans from different programs all over the country watching the national telecast realized our passing is horrible. We played tough, tougher than I expected, we just don’t have the tools to compete at this level.
