If Caroline does not play the rest of the season, will she be eligible to play next season?

Illini Nation, here's our match thread for Thursday's "Stuff Huff" match with Nebraska: oh, goodie! And this is on FS1 so we get to be embarrassed on TV! 😐 maigrey..."What is this "We" sh** kemo sabe"...are you an Illini fan or a FAKE...it appears to me you like to jump from team to team on VT trying to stir up trouble!

I'm an Illini fan, class of 95, and worked there until late 99. My rose colored glasses have just been smashed by Tamas multiple times. :/

If Caroline does not play the rest of the season, will she be eligible to play next season? when did she last play? The NCAA's medical redshirt rules allow student-athletes to be treated as if they didn't compete in a season if they sustain a major injury and meet certain criteria: - The injury or illness must occur during the first half of the season
- The student-athlete must be unable to participate for the remainder of the season
- The student-athlete must not have participated in more than 30% of competitions or 3 contests, whichever is greater

(Sorry to interject. I come in peace!) The At the Net B1G special about Bohm came on after the Oregon/Ohio State match and it’s the first I’ve seen it. Crying into my pesto and fusilli now 😭😭 So happy Cari is with a program where she feels comfortable being herself! It was what Raina said that got me. The support and allyship from teammates is awesome to see. It’s never been a struggle for me to root for the Illini, but it just got easier 🫶 Thanks for the heads-up about Cari's feature on At The Net! I watched it Thursday night after getting back from the Nebraska match. Couldn't agree more with your sentiments and I think the only difference for me was that I didn't have pasta : ). I found her closing lines to be particularly moving: "I could cry talking about how much the sport means to me, and if I can do something to make volleyball a more welcome and inclusive space then I gotta. For 12 year old Cari, I gotta speak up." I admire Cari for using her platform to push for inclusivity in sports. Glad to have her representing the Orange and Blue!

Did you find it online somewhere or catch it on tv? notpriddy (COIF) was asking me where to find it and I wasn’t much help besides saying it will be on YouTube eventually 😅 Edit to add: if anyone recorded the Ohio State/Oregon match on their cable box, it might be on the end of the recording after the match since that’s when I saw it on BTN.

It’s the September 29th one and Cari’s feature is the last one.

For fear of making a political statement, it is amazing and gratifying how improved social attitudes for most of us have become as compared to when I started college in the 60s. Several close friends were burdened for decades keeping a secret that should not have been a secret. Their lives would have been so much better if they could have lived their life as they could live it now. Cari is to be admired for what she is saying and doing.

This squeeze may mean we aren’t firing our volleyball coach as many have suggested, IMO. He makes $400k a year through Jan, 2027. If we aren’t paying Tim Anderson to coach, I can’t believe we will pay Tamas not to coach. "The Ohio State University Athletics Department, a department that brought in over $251 million in revenue last year, more than any other in the country, has dropped scholarships from its men’s gymnastics team, according to a local NBC affiliate citing “multiple sources”. Ohio State is one of only 15 men’s NCAA men’s gymnastics programs left, a decrease from almost 60 in the 1980s." swimswam.com/ohio-state-drops-mens-gymnastics-scholarships-after-ads-more-like-a-club-sport-comments/

CMM is so good. Is there any way to get her an extra couple of years of eligibility?

Slow start, but loved to see us come back strong and play with more consistency throughout the match. I think my preseason posts made it obvious how much I loved watching Ashlynn Philpot play, but having her on the team is huge!! I love how quick she moves and her arm speed is insane. Some of the balls she hits seem like the hit the floor as soon as they leave her hand. Very happy for her to get a new career high today. Also happy to see Laynie find some more consistent play and be a huge support on offense and defense (blocking). It’s been great to not only rely on Terry. Martinez Mundo (M&M) is lights out as libero, she has greatly improved the position and continues to amaze. I hope we can continue this momentum and keep the Ws coming.

For the benefit of those Illini who are still not happy with a 3-1 win over Northwestern, you might also note for comparison purposes, that 2 days ago, Purdue also beat Northwestern 3-1: 23-25 25-20 25-16 29-27

Much better today and glad we took the W - let’s try to hold this momentum now. Cautiously optimistic again.. at least until next weekend - happy with our freshies - way to go ladies!
