CMM is so good. Is there any way to get her an extra couple of years of eligibility?

Great first conference W, Illini! This after a strong effort in defeat against a talented Nebraska team on Thursday.
Wanted to give some much-deserved props to Lily for her play these past two matches. Digging bombs against that Nebraska offense and flying around today, making quick reads and getting to balls I thought were sure to fall. Thought her passing was solid today, too, and strung together some long service runs. Nice work, Lily!
Shouts out to Brooke on a couple strong matches, herself. Love the set distribution and good connections building with all of her hitters. Brooke-to-Ashlyn is already something special and today we saw their latest installment. Cool that they've been mixing up their slide routes, too, making that play even tougher to defend/read. And they mixed in a 31 to Laynie today, too. Good stuff, Brooke!

Decent win but still some bad errors. Brooke had one good serving run. Need more offense from Bohm otherwise they are camping out on Averie. We always seem to be one piece away.

Beginning with Northwestern, this is the schedule stretch where Fighting Illini should go 5-0 (Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana at Huff, and Maryland at Huff). 5-0 builds momentum towards earning an NCAA tournament bid.
Has there been explanation why Taylor De Bour is not receiving playing time? I get it...Tamas lineups are locked in unless injuries force adjustments...but there was significant Taylor De Bour hype prior to her illness. Thanks!

I'd assume it's partly stats-based. Laynie and Averie are hitting more efficiently than Taylor has, in her limited opportunities. And for one, Averie has been probably our best passer so we've gotta have her on the court, IMO, in addition to everything else she brings to the table.
With Kayla, Sarah, and Gabby seemingly out indefinitely, Taylor is next up if one more middle or a pin becomes unavailable. A prediction on Illinois VT was made that if one of our current healthy middles is unavailable that Laynie would shift to middle and Taylor would play opposite. If memory serves, Laynie played middle for most (if not all) of her penultimate club season, so she's got recent experience there. Did Triangle win nationals that season? I can't remember if it was that season or this most recent one.

If Caroline does not play the rest of the season, will she be eligible to play next season? when did she last play? The NCAA's medical redshirt rules allow student-athletes to be treated as if they didn't compete in a season if they sustain a major injury and meet certain criteria: - The injury or illness must occur during the first half of the season
- The student-athlete must be unable to participate for the remainder of the season
- The student-athlete must not have participated in more than 30% of competitions or 3 contests, whichever is greater
Caroline has played in 8 matches, 26% of the matches. If whatever ails her makes her unable to participate for the rest of the season she would be eligible to play next year.

I looked this up and did the research re:McKenna Wucherer on medical redshirt eligibility, and it applies here too. As long as CB plays 10 or fewer matches before the 18th match (minus exhibitions), she can qualify for a medical redshirt.

Thanks maigrey for all the info. You seem to have a lot of volleyball knowledge which I will admit I do not have after watching the women's college game for fifty plus years. Thanks again!

Others have tried aligning it to her stats, which I don’t think is reasonable to compare her stats with Averie or Laine given they have started and played in all 14 matches this year. I have heard from a few players parents on the team that she has been doing well in practices and looking good in warmups and has been healthy and ready to go since April. This is how Tamas manages players he waits for an injury, and sticks with his lineup, regardless of performances during a game or season. Having played and coached at high level in another sport, I don’t subscribe to the Tamas approach. I hope TdB doesn’t get frustrated and test the portal, from what I understand she was highly recruited both here in the US and up in Canada. At the end of the day, only Tamas really knows as he doesn’t really share information. Maybe we should ask the Russians they may know more.

I also am surprised. I'll guess the factors are: Illinois strength of schedule (#20 on October 1), losses to only tournament qualifying teams...if bids went out today , zero bad losses, perhaps 2 wins against opponents in top 75 RPI? I wish Illinois had defeated Missouri as Illini and Tiger season attributes (RPIs, conference records, season records) may be very similar. Thankfully, this season Illinois defeated Illinois State RPI Opponent Record Illini losses--------------------------------------- 1 Nebraska 14-1 13 Oregon 11-2 20 Washington 13-1 24 Dayton 14-1 43 Missouri 9-5 Illini wins against top 75 RPI teams----------- 64 Bowling Green MAC 10-6 65 Iowa St. 8-6
