Would love to see our blockers, especially Bohm , press a little more at the net. That MB from MSU put on a master class blocking Raina. We block straight up and down a lot resulting n a lot of blk touches but a lot of tools too.

What an exhausting day! Two Illini teams (volleyball and football), two games that on paper look like they should be decisive wins, two games that turned out to be anything but, with two opponents who were desperate for a win and who got a chance to feel good about their chances. At least volleyball wasn't quite the down-to-the-last-play heart-stopper that football was. I fully expected to lose that one on the last play before Roziek and co. bailed us out. But I was worried about Michigan State even before we started. It was the quick-turnaround schedule: Night game at Michigan, then on the road (even if fairly briefly), then get in to a hotel late, then up and prepping to play in mid-afternoon. Felt like we wouldn't be mentally sharp, and we weren't. MSU's fast start was no surprise. Just kept thinking, "We'll shake off the fog in time." Barely in time,as it worked out, but in time nevertheless. For all our service errors, we made none past the middle of the fourth set (Reilly for MSU's 16th point) -- but we did have three more aces after that. For all MSU's blocks, they had none in the fifth set. So we can check this off as a productive weekend. Bad loss avoided and pretty good win the night before (on the road against #37 RPI Michigan). If we keep winning the ones we "should" win and get an upset or two, our tournament drought should be over.

Sorry, guys. I was trying to edit my previous post (just to fix a typo -- should be "Rosiek") and ended up re-posting it instead. Being new here, I don't understand all the functioning of this site yet.
But on another note: I was switching back and forth between volleyball and football, so I hadn't noticed that we subbed in Bianca May in Reilly's spot during Set 5. Seems like a good idea, though, since Raegen's serve had been high-error today. This was a good time to throw something new at MSU, even if we didn't get points out of it.

I think Campbell has a better serve but not as good of a setter as Reilly

I'm glad you mentioned the football game. I turned it off when Purdue took the lead with 1:00 to go. You saved me from an overnight of grinding my molars. During the volleyball match I kept thinking Brooke looked tired, in her face and the way she was carrying herself on the court. Her sets were all over the place, even considering all the running she had to do to get to them. We need equip her with one of those devices that measure how far one runs during a match.

Avoided a major gack for the football team, but the volleyball team, one never takes road wins in the league for granted! Big win after getting housed in the first set and being down 2-1, but they took care of business in the 5th, the only full set I watched.

Way to finish, Illini! Important to find a way to win on nights when you don’t have your best stuff. Gritted it out against a motivated, scrappy home team. Also I think Raina has earned the next couple days off for some right shoulder icing! Lip reading her after that ref’s wrong, missed in/out call in Set 3 or 4 made me laugh.
2-0 on the weekend road trip and pulled to .500 in the conference. Looking forward to some home cooking this week against Indiana and another opponent I’ve forgotten : ) Maryland!

Indiana and Maryland - two more on an overly long list of must win games.

Good opportunity to have prospective recruits on campus.

I've kinda kept my eye out for our 2025 or 2026 signees at the first few Huff matches but haven't recognized anyone yet. I really like those two classes of future Illini.
Oh hey, Jordyn was in the building last year for the big upset over Purdue, along with Beth Prince and Kylie Bruder. Maybe she'll bring us some more good luck, Sunday!

Even though Id love to have the win over Mizzou, they keep winning which helps our RPI. They upset Tenn.

Do we have any intel on the following?
1.) Barnes injury 2.) Burbage injury/redshirt, is she coming back? 3.) any new 2026 recruits. At this point maybe save the scholie and look to the portal?

I got no intel on any of the above but thought I'd add some context to Item 3. Our current projected roster for 2026 is 17 players (this includes our two 2026 signees, Madison Miles and Maya Harris) and it sounds like the NCAA is set to enact a roster cap starting in 2025 of 18 players, all potentially could be on scholarship. So at this moment we've got one roster spot open for 2026. *It just now dawned on me that our 2025 projected roster is at 18, which does not include any injured 2024 seniors currently on the roster. I wouldn't think we'd be able to retain senior redshirts for next season. Seniors (2025)

Thanks for sharing, not too many biggies in the freshman roster.. we have had a good run on height last few years. Fingers crossed that is a trend we are working on.
