Per Pasquale's recommendation, on the third post of this thread I added a version of our roster that shows us our basic 2024 depth chart by position. With Sophie Stephenson entering the transfer portal, that brings our pin depth down to the same level it was at during the 2023 offseason, a precarious four pin hitters. We can't bring back Jess Nunge again, so I'm sure hoping we get another pin hitter from the portal this offseason. I think ideally we'd get someone with multiple years of eligibility left, as we're currently projected to have only four pin hitters in 2025, too (with Raina and Kayla set to finish their college careers). Of course we'd gladly take a pin with only one year left, too.
The table below is the pasted version copied from the third post.
Scholies -- all MB, Pin makes 8. Brooke & Barnes is 10. either Barry/May maybe would make 11. That gives us one.

What sort of expectations do people have for de Boer? 4 OHs is definitely thin so good to get more depth at the pins regardless but I've always been high on de Boer Mine are on the low-side. Coming off a major illness like that, we don't know how much Taylor was practicing last season or at what level. Ideally, they are able to bring her along slowly. www.upliftingathletes.org/2023/10/24/taylor-de-boer-rare-disease-champion/#:~:text=After%20multiple%20ER%20visits%20and,vasculitis%2C%20a%20rare%20autoimmune%20disease. This article does not really answer the question, we probably won't know until next summer, but it seems optimistic.

Barry signed a letter of intent, May did not. That means Barry is on scholarship, but we don't know if it a scholarship for all four years. When Brandi Donnelly signed her letter of intent years ago it was for three of the four years, it did not cover her junior year, at least when it was originally signed. Given her play I've always assumed her junior year was added later but nothing was ever announced. We also don't know if one of the players we think is on an athletic scholarship is on some sort of academic scholarship for which they were able to legitimately qualify. I'm told there are more academic grants for graduates than there are for undergraduates, so Terry may be on a graduate grant in aid. There is also NIL money presumably available - if football can find 6 figures for a defensive lineman surely someone can find enough NIL money for one volleyball player.
The bottom line is we have lots of guesses, but really don't know.

But with an auto-immune disorder, it's a crap shoot. that's a fair assessment...I'm a bit biased as a Canadian fan who just wants to see girls from Canada succeed, but I'm hopeful that she can have an epic comeback story

Venus Williams was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2011 and came back strong the following year. She beat a couple of Top 10 players, won a singles tournament, and won the Wimbledon Doubles Championship with Serena. In 2017 (at the age of 37), she made it to two Grand Slam finals and finished the year ranked in the top 5. With perseverance, treatment and a positive attitude, there's always hope.

Venus has Sjorgens (sp) , what Taylor has is much worse. Hopefully it can be managed and not result in another medical retirement. She has a lot of talent!

Because Indiana’s Savannah K. is in the portal, and would have a connection to Krista?

Ooh, along that line of thought, someone posted that they think Leyla Blackwell is in the portal. I think Krista would have played a role in recruiting her to Indiana, too. Same class as Kjolhede.

I love living in Illinois, have lived here my entire life. Even though I would love to see someone like Leyla Blackwell play for Illinois, she grew up in southern California and experienced a midwest winter in her year at Indiana. After her Indiana winter she returned to southern California and enjoyed success at San Diego. Kjolhede is more likely and would be a welcome addition, but if we only have limited scholarships available we need a pin first, a DS second, and then a middle. Of course, if Mychael Vernon decides to transfer to Illinois, the need for another DS is not so great and recruiting an established middle would become a priority. Inpaign, what are your thoughts?
