It seems the Badger fans are triggered by suggestions that Sheffield will go to the portal. It's what he does, he has a track record. It's not illegal, the rules allow it. You should celebrate it, not pretend that's not his MO. He's done it as well or better than anyone He can do it, it’s just less likely this year. I don’t know the exact scholarship situation, but I would think Hammil, Ashburn and TTA are on scholarship that are graduating. Charlie, Tosia, and Trinity are incoming and are most likely scholarshipped. I might be wrong on that point, full disclosure. Unless someone transfers/retires, I don’t know if there’s a scholarship to give. That’s why I’m looking within the team first. something some coaches do, especially ones that have the intention of using the portal regardless of anyone leaving their team, is they will offer some assumed full scholarship players 3.5 years instead of 4 and save a semester of scholarship for a grad or one year transfer. I dont know if Sheffield does this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has. I know dbk does, its a pretty smart move imo and has worked well for her

Meh'.... I'm good. I liked that last accidental interaction. Thought we kinda made friends. Well there you go; you get what you give. I even left a tongue-in-cheek post for you on the Nebraska thread today Hey, what did I do?

We MIGHT have had a spare schollie this year that could continue onto next year: Smrek, Orzol, Dev, Franklin, GG, CC, MJ, Izzy, TTA, Booth, Wrobel give 11 scholarships accounted for this year. Now, the question is whether Saige is on a full or only a two-year schollie. If she's on a full we don't have any more scholarships for next year; if she's on a partial we could play with the years and have an open scholarship for next year. We just don't know for sure. Where is this scholarship list?

Assumptions, and I would say those 11 assumptions are pretty safe; rainbowbadger also has several posts summarizing the (assumed) scholarship count in the main Wisconsin thread

Sheffield has DMed Harper Murray on twitter. Harper Murray will be a badger LMAO no. Lauenstein could be an interesting pickup though, if nothing else than for her to piss off John Cook. Obviously love drama. Good luck with that.

From your mouth to Gods ears -- social sleuths say she is following Coach Tamas and another player or two. They were the first ones on her out of high school, even before Nebraska. Then they dropped the ball. We'll see if they can get it back but methinks she ends up somewhere that would irk Cook. Wherever she goes it won't irk Cook. He is feeling good with another year of Beason at OPP, plus Jurevivius, who will be a red shirt freshman in 2024. Lauenstein is super athletic, but was not happy at NE and apparently clashed with Cook. Best for all concerned she moved on. Wish her the best, but she needs to tone it down a bit, few like drama unless it is elsewhere, especially a rival.

No one who is a big name randomly "jumps" in the portal. They already know where they are going before they do. do they tho? skinner, booth, podraza, and beason didnt have anything arranged prior to entering I suspect networking between players is a factor. Many have friendships from pre-college club, clinics and select team connections. Players cannot make commitments, but would know scholarship #'s and could provide some idea/opinion on playing opportunity. Unavoidable and understandable IMO.

Agreed. I know I was pretty high on her at the beginning of the season, but she definitely fizzled out. A terminal player, but she can’t seem to stop erroring so much. Yes! Her freshman year I couldn't seem to put my finger on it, but the whole time I saw her as a strange factor for the team, turns out the whole time I saw her as more of a highschool player then a Nebraska right side. She swung like crazy but didn't have any intent/placement half the time with the ball and errored way too high. My sense of it (based on numerous comments she made), is that Lauenstein is an intrinsic, very athletic hitter. Coach Cook expects a more discipline approach to the game. Thus, the gist of their conflict IMO.

I wouldn't mind her going to Wisconsin or Texas. It would be nice if we faced either of those teams starting an OPP who hit .206 in the Big Ten. The last thing Wisconsin needs next year is another opposite/middle. We have four starters now (there's a loaded term!) coming back. Lauenstein is more natural at OH. Not Predicting or recommending, just saying.

The natives are thirsty and we become restless when the kettle is emptied or the little bit of tea goes stale bitter/tannic!
Or the tea has anything to do with Nebraska or Texas. Preferably both. Any stats on how many regular VT contributors are NE or TX fans? Suspect it might compare well to a good hitting stat.

not always, but that would be an incredibly strange and specific thing to decide to lie about - also would be a 'lie' that doesn't benefit anyone, which is usually the reason for lying I'm not throwing around accusations because I don't really care. But the reason to lie would be that someone reached out to Booth to show interest from the Wisconsin side and that influenced her to enter the portal. I am NOT saying that's what happened. But that's exactly why you'd say something different in this situation. Usually the way that happens is through the club the player was formerly associated with. Especially if there's any kind of good relationship there. But it can happen through team members sending DMs. The OU softball coach literally posts what she's looking for (very SPECIFICALLY that could only apply to a few players in all of college softball) on social media and then picks through all the new high caliber players that enter the portal right afterwards. But there's zero benefit to admitting to contact with club organizations regarding a player at another university, or outlining how team members contacted the player about their interest in a school. We're being naive if we think NONE of the best players have any idea who might be interested in them before they put their name in the portal. That said, I don't think it happens with all of them, either. I think a lot of players simply want a different situation from where they currently are, and the portal is an excellent option for them to seek out another venue. What transpired in Booth's case, I have no idea, and have zero emotional investment in it. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if some contact was made before she entered in the portal. I live in the real world, and that's how the real world works. But there's no advantage to admitting it. SA's need to act in their own best interest. If things aren't working out, or the pastures look greener elsewhere, they need to check out their alternatives, rather than jump blindly into the abyss, IMO. It's called networking, an important skill for a successful career.

I assume using summer session classes to achieve that. Extending aid with a graduate stipend when combined with NIL for an established player could present a nice financial incentive to stay without a scholarship. But is that happening?

Stanfordvb is just making things up. All schools in the Power 5 conferences have mandated since at least 2016 that if a scholarship is offered the first semester of a student athlete’s career, that they are guaranteed all four years as long as they remain in good standing with the school. DBK hasn’t even been a head coach for as long as this rule has been in effect. www.news-press.com/story/sports/college/fgcu/2015/10/16/college-sports-scholarships-not-four-year-guarantees/74009542/#informedathlete.com/the-facts-about-guaranteed-multi-year-ncaa-di-scholarships/
