Hey Gopher fans! I was at the game last night and just wanted to say that's the best I've seen Shaffmaster look in college. I've always been a fan of hers, and I hope she has a great senior season!

Passing stats from the game last night:
MIN 1.94 as a team Zeynep 2.13 (40) Wucherer 1.66 (34) Thibault 2.00 (9) Hanson 2.80 (5)
TEX 1.97 as a team Wenaas 1.90 (34) Halter 2.00 (26) Skinner 1.82 (20) Akana 2.33 (6)
Good news is we still won while passing under 2 as a whole. I'm guessing the 4th set really brought us down as I thought we passed pretty well last night. I wonder if they do set breakdown as well for these numbers? I'll ask Avid.**
**edit, nope they dont.
Also good news is that we put good service pressure on them.

I think Connor Onion said it after Julia Hanson got a big kill in the Stanford match and did the shoulder shrug, "Are you not entertained?". I'll be thinking that every time she gets a big kill this season. Yes he did. I interpreted it less as a shrug and more as holding out her arms for adulation, ala Maximus in Gladiator. (Although to be fair, Julia was not quite that cocky). If I could figure out how to insert a picture of Maximus, I would, but after 4 tries I give up.

To many SE this weekend. But I also think there serving had a lot to do with their narrow lost Stanford and the win over Texas. They also out played Texas and as Cook said this team is better in August than the were last year in December. Next poll that comes out Minnesota is headed to top 10.

A couple of big tests this weekend against TCU and Baylor. If MN can stay in system and not let Parra go on serving runs, it will be another fun weekend for gopher fans! 12 receiving errors against Stanford and only 4 to Texas - improvement is the key. If they can stay consistent in SR, this is a top 10 team.

Last night's performance kind of reminded me of the Nicklin Hames huskers era, a lot of scrappy D and hanging in rallies long enough to either get the ball down or let the opponent error. Great on the defensive side, not super efficient offensively (save for the Calissa slide?? Woot!). Would love to see kill percentage keep increasing but at the same time if our identity is serving and D, I think that will make for a great, gritty season

How many times has a team had a great game against a poor team only to get clocked against a better team next game. This time they beat the #1 team. (and rightly so) So the talk will turn to I hope they don't have a let down.

I just have to say: the Crowl serving sub is genius and should be used moving forward. Her serving is consistent, gives the opposing side a new look, and her defense is shockingly good! If Grote is struggling, give Schnichels a go on the right (if need be) Also, if anyone caught the interview with Shaffmaster after the match, it gave me chills. And that also gives Z a short break and that can play dividend too.

How awesome would it be if we went on a revenge tour this year?! Let’s go out and beat everyone that transferred out. Texas ✔️ Wisconsin and Nebraska, you’re next!

I mean can we just acknowledge the unbelievable progression of this team from last year to now? I am so blown away by their first contact game which won them so many rallies this weekend. This was a huge pain point last year and to see it now as a huge strength is incredible. Their team chemistry is visible and this is a huge testament to the work all the players and coaches put it over the last 9 months. I can't wait to see what's in store for this team.

I know I shouldn't do this; but, with Wookie and Hanson both juniors, next year's competition in the gym is going to be interesting and exciting. With Acevado wanting to see the court, add in Kinney the options are going to interesting. Should also see a battle on the right side - fun times!! Go Gophs!
