Aside from the "Paige" errors, that video is completely spot-on. I don't think they were ignoring Shaffmaster's limitations, but she's not the biggest problem right now. And I'm no stranger to criticizing Mel. “Paige” took me by surprise 😲 Who would you play at this point now that we are getting close to the end of the conference play?

At least they're pretty equally harsh on everyone. Not so Canadian lol but at least consistent. Harsh but with some backhanded compliments. I know I'd slap a b**** if someone outside of my circle tried this %*$# with me lol and yes it helps that Pavan is a vet who probably received even worse comments especially while she was a student athlete. Pavan has always been a pretty intensively competitive person. I know it caused some friction at Nebraska, and she didn't always help herself when it came to her lack of media training. her blog that she kept in italy that she used to %*$# talk her team will always be iconic lol

At the very least, Wucherer should not be seeing the back row. At all. From the get-go. Short leash in the front row only because she has a higher hitting % than Acevedo. Otherwise Crowl on right and Grote to the left. Only Shaff and Hanson play six.

Serving efficiency compared to 5 weeks ago I would've thought with the recent problematic play that our % of points won when we serve would have deteriorated.
Player ATT Pts Pts Pct Pts Pts 11/11 Won Lost Pct 10/6 ATT Won Lost in last mo. Chloe Ng 27 18 9 0.667 0.692 26 18 8 Alex Acevedo 311 166 145 0.534 0.566 166 94 72 72 of 145 50% Lydia Grote 293 145 148 0.495 0.513 193 99 94 48 of 100 48% Melani Shaff 340 158 182 0.465 0.488 213 104 109 52 of 127 41% Julia Hanson 297 138 159 0.465 0.486 179 87 92 51 of 118 43% Elise McGhie 188 84 104 0.447 0.491 110 54 56 30 of 78 38% Zeynep Palbyik 315 137 178 0.435 0.461 204 94 110 43 of 111 39% 296/679 44% Skylar Gray 67 28 39 0.418 0.364 44 16 28 12 of 23 Mckenna Wuchrer 49 20 29 0.408 0.404 47 19 28 Kate Thibault 25 10 15 0.400 0.222 9 2 7 8 of 16 Lauren Crowl 74 25 49 0.338 0.293 58 17 41 8 of 16 Calissa Minatee 22 6 16 0.273 0.267 15 4 11 TOTALS 1859 873 986 0.47 0.48 1264 608 656 28 / 55 = 51%
The percentages of points won have slipped a little for all of the regular servers & Elise Unless McGhie is outperforming in practice I would let others be the serving specialists I don't remember the match where Chloe did so well...maybe preseason against weak teams... Green Bay? The other serving specialists who come in for MB2 were over 50% in the last month, a GOOD sign
No matter, MN's serve efficiency ranks 3rd in the B1G. If you are siding out at 60% (we're close) and winning 47% of the points when we are serving, then we should be a winning team. Do Neb & WI, ahead of us, have radically different SA/SE ratios (a stat only useful in the terminal serving triangle point)? John Cook, in this week's presser, paid basically no attention to the stat that Neb had zero SEs vs. Oregon. I noted earlier that Stanford swept SMU last month while committing 22 SEs in 3 close sets. SA/SE= 3/22 (That box score is boggling) I vote for focused aggression in our serving. Risk a few more SEs to significantly ramp up pressure.
I think I am suffering from VBOCD.

In the Washington game Kegan subbed a lot and sat some players. It really didn't make a difference. Most of what Pavan said was true. In two years this team has never played good defense. There is no savior on the bench. The rest of the season I'm going to cheer and enjoy this team. Time to stop criticizing this team which is going to have some good games and bad. It is what it is.

Hey this is way off topic I’m sure but I was just wondering because I haven’t seen the Gophers play in a long time (or anyone else for that matter). How are they fixed for setters? I’ve seen a kid up in Canada who just starting setting last year (grade 11). She’s a tall girl, 6’5” now I think, with really nice hands but needs time to learn what setting is all about. Do coaches consider kids who start setting this late? Red shirt? Just curious is all.

I'm sure she would be welcomed on any team. I doubt if she would get a scholarship.

Sick of the weak excuse of poor passing as the reason for lack of middle involvement in the offense. That's like a QB who holds the ball for 10sec on every dropback pass and then blames the OL for getting sacked. Really bad comparison. I think what you should be comparing it to is a bad snap from the center and blaming the QB for a 10 yard loss.

The only way I can actually see this team being successful moving forward is having Acevedo play back row for wucherer, squeezing Wucherer out of the SR pattern when she is in front row, and for the love of god… RUN A QUICKER OFFENSE. We know Shaff can, so is it the coaching staff that’s changing this? I watched a few points in the matches last weekend where Shaff set Wucherer a quick ball to the outside and the block was late leading to a kill. Where has this been the last two seasons?
I really don’t know if it’s Shaffmaster’s decision making or if it is the coaching staff changing things up for whatever reason. But the common denominator is that it changed when Hugh left.

I agree with what you said, and I think another point is that the chemistry just seemed better with Acevado on the floor all the way around. More energy, more confidence in each other. But anyway, happy game day! Hope the Gophs will play up to their potential tonight.
