Something I liked about this win. It came from kids who stayed. Phoebe deciding to play another year, Shaff staying 5 years, Julia who had to wait for her moment, Wookie who has stayed committed to the Gophers, Calista who saw limited action last year. In this day and age of transferring when things don’t go as planned or you don’t play the minutes you would like, you don’t often see teams like this. I understand there are two transfers but they are not the big name transfers. It’s two kids who came “home”. I hope this season continues to progress like this, because it won’t just be good for Minnesota….but the entire NCAA

God bless Pedro, our block was touching everything yesterday. Minatee looked confident and has a whip of an arm. Phoebe owns the net. Love this team!!!!

Thanks! Wow, that was pre-Hugh (I am OLD!). LOL Also, apparently TX wasn't #1 either At the risk of going down a rabbit trail, haven't we also defeated Nebraska while they were #1 sometime in the past decade? Yes 11/23/2016 MN 3 NE 2 #2 over #1. I remember having to miss that match for some reason, had kids for Thanksgiving or something. I also remember thinking we were going to win it all in 2016, but alas Stanford happened again.

Rewatching the match and the improvement in ball control is really something... I was initially put off with the (way too many) 2 handed pushes but our hitters were actually playing very smart - swinging heavy on the right sets, but keeping the ball in play and great placement of the ball when the set wasn't there. That takes a lot of patience and a high volleyball IQ, also a result of great coaching.
I'm surprised the passing numbers weren't as high as I thought just by the eye test (Z had a MATCH though defensively) but they dominated OOS balls, beautiful OOS sets and smart high arm heavy swings. Texas played well but the serve and pass game was the difference - those tight to the tape and close to the line serves that weren't hitting against Stanford were definitely hitting against TX. Shoutout to Halter though for her defensive prowess and a really nice service run in the 4th, she's a baller.
And middles... Minatee crushing hitting in the .500s and Phoebe putting up a wall as usual with some nice offense running 1s in front of the setter. Still work to do in minimizing the ruts they tend to get in but wow, one hell of an improvement!
ETA: the block touches too were everyyyything, especially in the 5th

Agreed. Finding it increasingly difficult to root for a team when the team has all new players each year. Missing watching a team grow together over the duration of their careers.

Just thinking about the weekend… we kinda have to be kicking ourselves about the Stanford match. Absolutely great to come out of the weekend 1-1 with a win over Texas but we had a huge chance to come out 2-0 with 2 top 5 wins… regardless a VERY good weekend for the gophers and I am so excited for the rest of the season

What is the biggest win in Minnesota volleyball history, in your opinion?

What is the biggest win in Minnesota volleyball history, in your opinion? I think there are several good options, but my mind went to USC in the final four in 2004. I thought we were toast but we kind of stomped them. Plus our only Finals appearance (let’s not talk abt that game 😅)

What is the biggest win in Minnesota volleyball history, in your opinion? Either the win over #1 Nebraska in 2016 or the five-set home win of eventual champs Penn State in 2010 (I think it went like 23-21 in the fifth). Gibbenmeyer's last year. It was one of the greatest sporting events I've ever attended.

2016 first game that I had ever seen. Had season tickets to women's hockey and softball. We played our rival Wisconsin and won in 5. I had never been to a sporting event with such energy and excitement. No longer have season tickets to hockey or softball.

I want to see how they look against Baylor and TCU before I jump them up too far in my head.
