Z has been aced 17 times so far this season and 8 of those were in the match against Stanford. So if we pretend that never happened her passing grade is probably a fair amount better lol

Here are my serving stats for the Gophers, hand compiled from the match play by play. Columns are the result of the point, not necessarily the serve itself. Yes, they don't add up in most cases, likely due to manual entry and/or missing a category here and there. Player | Attempts | Pts Won | Pts Lost | Pct | Aces | SE | Kill | HE | BLK | Opp K | Opp E | Shaffmaster | 164 | 82 | 82 | .500 | 13 | 16 | 37 | 9 | 19 | 56 | 14 | Palabiyik | 158 | 80 | 78 | .506 | 6 | 10 | 36 | 13 | 19 | 58 | 15 | Hanson | 147 | 79 | 68 | .537 | 15 | 15 | 34 | 12 | 11 | 42 | 17 | Acevedo | 134 | 80 | 54 | .597 | 11 | 9 | 39 | 11 | 12 | 33 | 17 | Grote | 134 | 70 | 64 | .522 | 11 | 17 | 38 | 8 | 8 | 38 | 14 | McGhie | 61 | 29 | 32 | .475 | 4 | 4 | 11 | 6 | 3 | 22 | 11 | Wucherer | 47 | 19 | 28 | .404 | 5 | 15 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 13 | 7 | Gray | 42 | 16 | 26 | .381 | 4 | 8 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 19 | 3 | Crowl | 36 | 9 | 27 | .250 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 22 | 2 | Ng | 26 | 18 | 8 | .692 | 3 | 3 | 8 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 6 | Minatee | 13 | 4 | 9 | .308 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 5 | Thibault | 9 | 2 | 7 | .222 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 1 |

Wow Ng's numbers are hard to ignore--small sample size though. If you felt like updating and sharing this table after every week, I sure wouldn't mind

Saying he feels like they let fans down in the Pav last year is kind of... sweet? Acknowledging the fan experience as valid is pretty cool. I wouldn't say Hugh took the fan base for granted per se, but it's kind of nice hearing Keegan express appreciation for what he calls the community around Gopher Volleyball. Fan service can go a long way and winning isn't the only way to give fans what they want. I've said it about the social media this season too. Not sure if the athletic department just has different communications/social media staff/interns this year or if Keegan has anything to do with pushing for it, but it feels like there's more engagement with fans than during the Hugh years.
I think Keegan does a good job of honoring where the program and its fans have been and expressing where he wants it to go. He really understands that we (not just us on VT) love our Gopher volleyball.

Passing numbers were shared in the match thread. Uff-dah! Those are indeed numbers. I'm glad it worked out in the end. Mel definitely had to make lemonade out of lemons all night. Z seems to have steadied out after a rough match against Stanford. Not an elite passer yet, but... passable. I think being aced 8 times was a fluke and credit to Stanford's serving. Zeynep: 2.14 (28) Thibault: 1.50 (20) Acevedo: 1.79 (17) Hanson: 1.46 (13) Wucherer: 1.21 (7) 1.75 as a team how we won that match with these passing numbers need to be studied lol. I now have even more admiration for Mel after seeing these numbers. Many moons ago I did ask about passing at the college level and why these athletes don't have a better grip on it, when entering their college days. I got the impression from posters that it is not being taught in the clubs and these athletes are being told they will learn more about passing during their college careers. Now, one thing for sure, we are far behind the rest of the world in this skill in the sport of Women's Volleyball. For the most part, our USA players are learning to become better at it in the pros. For example take a look at Rettke and Plummer. I believe not either were ever known for their defense and/or SR while in college. Look at Jordan Larson who has openly admitted how hard she had to work at it becoming one of the best in the USA.....by no means is PASSING A GIVEN TALENT. So for me to see these stats for our Gopher players is no surprise. Here's hoping as this season progresses it does get much better.

Lydia’s in system efficiency vs out of system definitely matches up with the eye test. Wonder what Julia’s OOS efficiency is. She has definitely become the go-to arm. Sure would be nice if stuff like this was in box scores! Edit to add: this basically crowns her the best opposite just in terms of serving stats and I'd have to say that makes sense! 51% block touch rate is higher than I would have guessed too, so that's cool to see. Definitely a really important stat. It's not all about the stuff blocks. http://instagram.com/p/DAbRRN1P4q-

I always enjoy watching Texas haha. They had me scared tonight. I’ve definitely been hoping TCU and Baylor have good seasons too. Don’t want them to flop and make our losses to them look “bad”
