We are really in desperate need of some change in serve receive. Even if it’s just changing what passers are next to each other or rotations. The past 2 matches we have given up 29 !!! (TWENTY-NINE) aces!!!!! Even for a really bad passing team that is truly an unthinkable number. We are doing basically everything else well or at least above average, it is amazing to me that we can’t even find ways to just put a high 2 or even 1 on some of these serves

How many serves did we just not even touch? I feel like some of you like rewatching matches. Please count. I will not be rewatching this one 😂
Always going to support these girls but also wtf? Thank god Grote and Hanson were putting balls away when we could get a good set to them otherwise it would have been a sweep.
Grote 17-2-47 .319 Hanson 17-2-36 .417 Middles with 20% of the attacks again which seems like a good goal for a MINIMUM
Show someone those numbers and they'd maybe say "oh nice, so it was a good win?"
"Nope all four of our passers were aced at least 3 times for 17 total and our floor defense reverted to 2023"

I really didn’t think it could get worse than 23 missed serves against Stanford. This takes the cake. I’ve never seen anything like it in all the years I’ve followed this team. At some point you need to think about putting Gray in when someone is struggling. Is she THE answer? Absolutely not. But try something!!!!!

Those were nasty serves Purdue was serving at us tonight. Low flat with major pace on them and they were NAILS in placement. Kudos to them for pulling off their serving game plan nearly perfectly. Never seen anything like it. They must have been practicing all week overtime on those. They exposed a MAJOR weakness tonight and it needs to get fixed yesterday.
Can't believe we were able to make it to 5 sets.
I don't envy Cook because this is a tough problem to fix.

To all you stat fans...Can someone post Colvin's individual stats vs Minnesota for all 5 years? She wasn't a COVID freshman, so only 4 years. We don't play Purdue twice this season so unless we run into them in the tournament, Purdue will have gone 5-1 against Minnesota in the Colvin era. She had 4 opportunities in the Pav and won 3 of them. I would NOT like to run into them in the tournament if we make it to the second weekend. Result column is Gopher result and the gold rows are the ones at the Pav. | Result | k-e-a | % | Aces | BS + BA | Points |

Looks like Crosson the ‘26 OH recruit is on campus. I wonder who else is there tonight! I was wondering if any out of state recruits/commits would be at the border battle match but then remembered duh Wednesday during the school year makes that nearly impossible. I hope some of the alum are still in town for this one. Imagine being a recruit and seeing the Pav on game day, meeting the current team AND Gibbemeyer, Santana, Wilhite, Hart and Murr. There was some Gopher royalty at the Pav on Wednesday! It was nice to see Airi the Olympian already up on the wall. Aside: pavsec5row10 was it you that noticed the missing final 4 banner and posted a picture about it? Did that get fixed yet? Yes, the 2015 Final Four Banner was back tonight.

What a nightmare. Yet we took it 5. Proud of their fight.
They were sooo in their heads on SR. I won’t believe it’s a new trend. I refuse!

That was gross, and those weren’t Stanford serves. Hoping Z can command the backrow better as the season goes along, all 3 outsides need an absurd amount of reps in practice. It was unreal. I mean Colvin has a good serve, but giving up 7 Aces to her in one match is crazy. Even worse was making Ryan McAleer look like Micah Hancock. She comes to the Pav with 2 SA on the season and leaves with 8?!? Ridiculous!

Also, the change to Crowl kind of worked for a bit and she outperformed my expectations, but I need to have Acevedo on the floor in set 5, especially serving. smh.
Minatee being tentative and ineffective was a surprise too.

I will say that the more we've seen that everyone (even Alex) struggles with passing, it makes sense that Wucherer has passed as much as she has. Seems like you could draw straws to pick passers and just hope a few of them have an above average night because none of them are consistently good. On this thread we seemed hopeful that Alex was going to be the answer for more ball control but I don't think that's the case (yet). All the OHs need to step up their reception, not just Wucherer. Since no one's passing stands out, their out of system attacking will be so important since that's where our offense lived basically the whole night against both opponents this week.
There's no way they aren't working on passing in practice. In my opinion it's the hardest volleyball fundamental. It will take time and frankly there are plenty of NCAA players that don't improve their passing, so they will continue to work with what they have, work towards improving, and find ways to win despite bad passing like they did against Wisconsin and Texas. Tonight it fell short and Purdue took advantage better than Wisconsin did.

Chile, the passing line was under some pressure!
Even with that, I was encouraged by the amount of kills that Julia got along with her efficiency. She continues to show that she can take out the trash for the Gophers.

Grote had one of her GOAT nights too. Besides The Mel and Calissa connection being off tonight, the offense looked great on paper. Of our 10 points in the 5th set 7 kills from Julia (nearly half of her kills lol) 2 kills from Lydia 1 Purdue SE

I was concerned about the Calissa/Shaff connection but it takes a backseat far away from my concern with the passing line. Wookie or Acevedo need to buck up and take control of that other pin position.
