Every post on here understandable.....in every sport, not just volleyball, there is a need for a player or players that can handle very very tough pressure moments. Otherwise....
What were KCook's teams in Washington made up of....6R Pins or DS/L's to handle the back court? I am going to assume his long range plans here at Minnesota will be very similar.

Like gogophers said, it was a mental breakdown in passing. GoGophs said it. Gogophers and Gogophs are two different posters.

That match was 100% a mental breakdown on serve receive... it took me back to my playing days as a lib/ds riding the struggle bus and thinking "please dont serve me, please dont serve me". Pretty sure Thibault was in that mindset with Colvin serving her, she picked Thibault apart and it was contagious, no one was able to right the ship. Purdue witnessed the breakdown and took advantage and started serving tougher and tougher, no fear holding them back, gaining confidence with every serve. Not much you can do after that (ie Nebraska who's a fantastic passing team vs Texas in the championship or vs SMU this season) That being said, everything else was good and they kept it very close in 5 sets despite passing like sh*t which is actually amazing. Like others have said, if you look at the box score or the stats you'd think it was a better match than it was and that's a positive to build off of. Currently the L for my team and I cannot emphasize enough about the mental breakdown in passing. You can try everything you can but somehow you just cannot seem to pull yourself out of that hole.

The season is not tanked after a 5 set loss to the #10 team. Now do 2-4 to teams with a pulse. You know, Big Ten level teams.
Do you even like volleyball?

I beg to differ on that every post bit lol but on the subject of KC's UDub teams, I do recall his 2020 (?) squad earning some sort of Heart Attack title for their many nail biting 5 setters. If I recall they avenged our Pitt loss in the Sweet Sixteen for us (on a v dramatic come-from-behind 5th set serving run). A theme?

posted this on game thread by accident A Great EqualizerUnready to rewatch yet Check out Indiana vs Oregon 3rd set to see an overmatched IN serve the Ducks off the court Hanson: 1.33 (32) Zeynep: 1.58 (26) Thibault: 1.64 (25) Acevedo: 1.81 (16) Minnesota 1.54
At the risk of seeming pompous a 'LMFAO' quip (on the game thread) doesn't do justice to Purdue's exquisite serving plan into Zone 5, and maybe it was just an attempt at irony. I hated being targeted in serve receive by flat serves with pace 40 yrs ago and I too, wished the opponent would serve somewhere else. Years ago I suggested that MN bring in heavy hitting guy servers to help our reception when a top serving opponent was due. e.g. M. Hancock because we had no one who could perform a jump topspin. We have servers who have pace and flat trajectories and I watched Pedro in practice stand at the net and drive balls for passing a few weeks ago, but it wasn't a focal point. It seems like an anomaly that MN is so strong on floor defense digging hard driven balls and has so much trouble in serve reception where you have more time to set a platform to receive. MN now has a target on its face (not back) and we'll see how they adjust. ps. re. a comment about our MBs 2nd set: 0-0 Minatee has to interrupt her approach and hit long I suggested, given all of her attempts, that there were connection issues (and probably a bunch of block touches). she was only blocked twice and only had 4 HEs. Phoebe was not ineffective imo, but didn't have that many opportunities given Shaff's locations for setting. 03'15 www.bigtenplus.com/en-int/video/purdue-at-minnesota-condensed-game/1804327It seems safe to say that MN's success in the B1G will depend on better first contacts.

If I didn’t just have surgery, I’d come in and serve at them for reps. My jump float is downright filthy when it connects, and my serve from 1 to 5 can be unfair at times 😅 floats are tough especially when they not only have pace, but are flat or downward and have tremendous break

Do you even like volleyball? I started following Gopher football and volleyball in 2018.
Watching Morgan smash the ball down, putting holes in the floor was delightful fun.
We haven't had that since 2020. You know why. Looking forward to that coming back, starting next year.
(Coincidentally, last year was the worst non-covid year in football since I started following, and here again 2024 is trending like 2023.)

What’s MNs current RPI ranking? Anyone know? Official RPI doesn't come out until about mid-October, but Figstats does an unofficial version. They have Minnesota at 32 right now. ncaastats.figstats.net/volleyball-rpi.cgi
