Hanson got her first Big Ten Player of the Week award! So well deserved. The last Gophers won this award was Landfair on Nov 28th 2022. http://instagram.com/p/DBrcO4VSDIP Absolutely deserves it. It's been so fun to watch her emerge after having to wait so long to show us how talented she is! What I would give to be able to jump half as high as she does 😅

So glad they proved me wrong and gave it to Hanson. Well deserved. 2-0 and POTW…. What a weekend for her.

I agree, Hanson is very deserving. She is showing some real leadership.

If the sideline was 4" wider Hanson might have hit .600 for the weekend. I wonder if her willingness to swing for a kill is rubbing off on Wookie, who, for the first time this year (imo), really picked up her velocity.
I posted this last week, but some of her swings in this 5' highlight are just dumbfounding and well worth repeat viewing
Kudos to the Big Ten Volleyball content providers

In the Ohio State highlight video I rewound and watched Wucherer's 5th set overpass bounce so many times. Putting it away with authority and then the team celebration. Thibault looked like she was being exorcised she got so excited lol
Also Mel's 4th set roof of Londot. We overpassed a serve and she turned lemons into lemonade. She knew Londot was going to swing. Didn't even bother going up and trying to keep it on our side or joust. Committed to the block, and her footwork and form were chef's kiss.
21-19 in the 3rd for Grote's OOS kill that I think mcmike pointed out where Ohio State didn't put up a block and she punished them for it 22-15 in the 4th for the block 8-6 in the 5th for overpass kill

Anyone know when they will announce the start time of the Oregon game on 11/09? It's now been announced for 3:00 pm CST.

Has mcmike or any other fan broken down Grote of 2023 vs Grote of 2024? Curious what is behind the difference in her play.

Ball just kept going up. I'm actually shocked Wuch didn't net, I feel like when you're going that hard and sharp you hit the net on the follow through. It's good to have overpass kills after 2-3 seasons fluffing them.

Has mcmike or any other fan broken down Grote of 2023 vs Grote of 2024? Curious what is behind the difference in her play. What difference are you noticing or wondering about? She's actually hitting .245 so far this season which is exactly what she hit by the end of last season haha One interesting thing I'm seeing is related to her serve, which we know is good! Just looking at certain stats without watching, you might think she's not serving as tough this year. Her ace % is down from 10.9% last year to 7.8% this year. Error % down from 13.2% to 11.4%. But! Teams this year are only killing the ball on 25.8% of successful receptions of Grote's serve compared to 34.6% last year. So basically she was scoring with aces a little more last year but in-play serves weren't giving teams as much trouble. Some stats to support our eye test that our serving has been tougher this year. Even when we don't get aces, we have a handful of servers that can really put pressure on opposing passers and offense, thereby making our defenders' jobs a bit easier.

Thanks....Yes her serving for sure. Perhaps the other team members offense has increased and therefore she has not been the dominating factor in many of our matches this season.

She's had 2 off nights the last 2 matches she's played against Penn State and Ohio State. It seems she had a nagging injury after sitting out set 3 at PSU and the NW match. Grote had led the team in kills 6 of the 7 matches prior to Penn State. Hopefully she gets back to her usual efficiency on the Michigan trip.

That didn't preclude the possibility of a redshirt travelling for the express reason that in the event of injury, the redshirt would be burned and the player would play. I have no doubt there were just such instances in the past. This is highly doubtful and very likely wrong. There have been many, many players in high level college football who played right away as true freshmen. For decades, include decades before the rule change. (Which is a great rule change, and every sport should have a similar rule, which would indeed alter this discussion.) Coaching staffs knew early on and by the end of fall camp a true freshman would know that he was not going to be on the scout team that fall, that he'd be on the two-deep, traveling, and thus would very likely see game action. Those are oceans apart. So no, your idea likely falls flat and does not carry water. With one exception and that would be quarterback. I could see a true freshman QB travel as the emergency, with the idea that hopefully he would never have to play. But it being such a specialized skill position that you need one. Swenson are: a setter, which we have two others already on the roster, and a pin, which we have many on the roster. If she is truly is the 2nd best setter on the team, then it's coaching malpractice and fireable to redshirt that player.

In addition to conflicting with HS volleyball, it *also* conflicts // double-books with the (neutral teams) Nebraska vs Omaha MBB game that’ll be next door in Williams Arena starting at 2:30.

Her drives do seem a little faster and her court vision is undoubtedly better. She had some errors going line against tOSU, but so did Hanson. no blame. when you have go to MBs like WI, Purdue (Colvin), you aren't going to see OPP attempts that high. when Wookie was sidelined and MN wasn't passing well Grote was getting set on the left in ro1 a LOT. btw, Purdue got caught in ro1 for 11 straight points by WIs setter, Fuerbringer the other day. my impression is that Grote's high serving efficiency this year is the biggest performance jump. the SA/SE ratio is not helpful in this regard.
