Wookie playing at less than 100% physically is still hitting almost 100 pts higher than Acevedo
Asking a R-Fr to increase her skill range against the top ranked teams in the conference is not a strategy I would endorse
You can tell from Wookie's erratic receptions that she is having trouble connecting her legs to absorb the force of a hard driven serve. Her passing when not pressured is pretty good, so she should be hidden/stacked vs. dangerous opponent servers and it makes sense to have Hanson next to Shaff for ro1 serve reception.
You can't do it with only your arms. You can also see/sense discomfort when she rolls to all fours before lifting herself off the Taraflex
If she was a regular recipient of biqs or pipes you might justify her in the back court, but she hasn't been.
Since coming back Wookie has shown more terminal ability (80 29 211 .242 since Indiana), but she has a smaller comfort area to take big swings and the set location is not in that zone all that often, so we see a lot of tippy-ness. I think she was hitting in the .170 are before she was out.
imo, Crowl doesn't deserve more court time unless she cranks up her swing velocity. If my hands were tied I'd put Kali in as an OH and leave Grote in her natural OPP position. She has enough experience to probably be more block avoidant than Alex at this juncture. Unless Mckenna wants to bench herself to be more physically ready for the NCAAs I don't see how you can hold her out.
If you don't count the big blocking PSU & Ore Wookie is hitting around .270.
Not going to parse Acevedo's H% between better and weaker teams before Wookie came back. Don't know how you can factor spot placements for Wookie since.
OH H% is going to be dampened when you cannot activate Phoebe & Calissa. You can't feed them when you can't pass.
