Volleyball seems to be booming, so maybe I'm wrong about this. But if you want to grow the game and to spread appreciation for it, I think you'd want to incentivize the elite teams to play a couple of the lower-ranked teams each year, rather than punishing them for doing that. Sometimes, though probably not all that often, RPI seems to stand for "Really Poor Indicator." SDSU is currently ahead of MN in RPI. It is a REALLY POOR INDICATOR. No shade to SDSU lol but it’s insane. They have played no top 100 opponents.

The gophers have lost 10 games. If you want to host win the close ones. They do not deserve to host. I'd rather consider your previous comment that the NCAA loves the idea of earning $250,000 for letting MN host. I've never understood why non-conf games the first week of the season count as much as they seem to. Does Pablo count match points not won in 5th sets? The algorithm must recognize close losses because a Pablo 10 makes no sense otherwise. 13-13 in the 5th vs Stanford 14-13 in the 5th vs Baylor to lose 14-16 on their home court 17-16 in the 5th vs TCU to lose 18-20 then 16-15 in the 5th vs WI last week to lose 16-18 Maybe both Purdue & UCLA can hand Oregon defeats this week. We won't get help from Baylor's opponents, but they drew only 3,000+ for their match vs Texas. Since 2013 when Utah moved into the Huntsman Center they've drawn over 3,000 only 7 times Root hard for Washington to beat USC at home on Wednesday Root for the Gophers to play with a passion in Champaign and then leave no prisoners on Senior Night vs tOSU. that flat loss vs Washington with 11 SEs and getting aced 13x. That loss may be what is disqualifying.

Last week, Minn was tied with Missouri for 14-15 in Pablo. How in the world did Minn get to #10 this week and leapfrog both Oregon and Purdue in doing so?

I’m pretty sure Pablo takes into account score differential not just wins and losses or even set wins and losses. Didn’t we outscore Wisconsin because of that second set blowout? Could be a big reason we got bumped up

Again, Minny should've won a few of those five setters and not had imposters play the PNW schools (UGH but w/e), and it certainly helps your RPI to win those tight matches, but then I see SDSU, BYU, Dayton, and I'd even argue Marquette(ish, I know, Big East stuff gets tricky).

Hey Gopher fans! I'm planning to put together a match thread for this week's Illinois/Minnesota match and would like to add Minnesota's likely lineup on the first post of the thread. I'd very much appreciate your help in telling me which Gophers you're expecting will play regular rotations, all the way down to serving specialist. Here's an old example of the lineups that I add to the post, just to show you all the positions I like to add to the lineup. Thanks!

Could be a big reason we got bumped up Yes, Pablo counts points, not W/L. still, this late in the season and even on an overall eye test of the teams' records: Minn over Purdue? Oregon? Both teams have clearly better hitting percentage differential on the season than does Minnesota. Yes, hitting percent differential isn't the end-all, be-all for Pablo, but it's a rough proxy for what Pablo counts. Anyway . . . #10 is probably as high as Minn has been this late in the season since 2021. As someone who thinks Pablo is the most accurate of the ranking sources widely used, I'm certainly glad to see it. Surprised. But glad.

Lol yup 2022 at Huff Hall. Wucherer wasn’t available. Crowl had 10 swings in 5 sets 😅 Crazy. Hanson should have been in the lineup since she started the season at Opp? 20 of the 24 sets she appeared in during 2022 were non-conference matches. Crowl played in 29 sets and hit .213 to Hanson’s .108. Crowl was better off the bench by the time conference play rolled around. Besides the Texas match I remember Hanson looking a little lost most of the time. I remember being at the Purdue match that year and Jenna was having a terrible night. Crowl came in and went 7-0-13 in 3 sets. Really sparked some Gopher momentum for a 4-set win.

Hey Gopher people! I've got a draft thread up for Wednesday night's match at Illinois. I'll get lineups added sometime tomorrow.
